One room in the basement has often got water on the floor after a rain. This has been recently my main concern. I got in touch with about 10 waterproofing contractors. Not all of them are on angie?s list. All of them have been helpful in order for me to settle on what should be done. Mr. Armstrong has made 2 suggestion to address my concern. One was to replace the front stoop made originally from blue stones by the stoop made nearly entirely from concrete. The second suggestion was to install a drain tile which would dry the often flooded room by means of leading water from that room to the sump pump. Mr. Armstrong open and flexible communication style was what attracted me initially. This interaction has been deepening while I kept meeting other contractors, since I have not yet known at the time what exactly to do. With time it has become clear to me that Mr. Armstrong is most suitable to do the project. And the project is to replace the old stoop with a concrete one as described. Mr. Armstrong has recommended to wait with building the drain tile until we see that re-building the stoop alone would not keep the room dry. I am most happy that Mr. Armstrong?s team has rebuilt the stoop during Oct. 22-27, 2015. While there were rains since that time, the room in question remains dry so far (Nov. 22, 2015). I will be watching for much longer time. In connection with basement waterproofing Mr. Armstrong in addition has improved gutters, corrected the exhaust tube extending it outside of the basement as properly it should have led exhaust fumes outside, and removed most of the lose floor tiles in one basement room. This was all free of charge. In addition, Mr. Armstrong let me rent a dehumidifier (April Air) for 39 days to see if it can reduce the humidity in the basement to 50% from about 80%. The dehumidifier does reduce the humidity to even below 50%. However, he has charged me only for 30 days of the rent. The old stoop was also losing its stability and its surface was shaking. The solidity and stability of the re-built stoop brings up a lot more enjoyment with the look and the feel of this stoop, while stepping on it, and for its role in helping to dry the basement. While the stoop has been completed on Oct. 27, new concerns emerge as Mr. Armstrong spotted chipmunk?s holes in the soil near the sides of the stoop. Chipmunk?s tracks inside the earth may lead the water to the basement beneath the stoop. Mr. Armstrong has offered a way to plug the holes and eliminate this threat of leading water inside the basement. I am open and would be happy to work with Mr. Armstrong again. I think that Mr. Armstrong style of doing business is such as to enable him to do many projects with the same client, because he is sensitive to client?s concerns and attempts to foresee future challenges for the client as well as to the costs the client will bear. One of the examples of this is the manner in which Mr. Armstrong sells dehumidifiers which are often needed to help reduce the humidity level in basements. Mr. Armstrong offers renting them initially for a few weeks before a client would make a decision to buy. He'll do anything but he doesn't have an actual stone and mortar business, I think he just works out of his house. He has also done our 3 bay garage floor for us. My experience has been very good. He is responsive and he does exactly what he tells you he is going to do. When he is finished it is exactly how he describes it. Sometimes, in construction, especially when you are dealing with concrete, these guys get a little sloppy, a little messy. He ended up producing exactly what he described. Both my wife and I talked to him about it because it's a driveway, it's the entry to your house and you don't want some piece of junk when they get through. I've seen some pretty poor concrete work over the years. So far, it is also very stable, it hasn't broken up or cracked. He put the stress cracks in the right place. He's very good at what he does. He is a little bit slow getting back to you from when he quotes. When he's on the job he's fast, so I don't want to give him a rating that looks bad. When you are trying to get him to do the job, he is kind of slow in that area. He will tell you a date and something will happen and he'll call you. Our consultant (Joyce Baker) at the Henrietta location was absolutely fantastic to work with. She spent several hours with us, designing and pricing our cabinets. It was like she had actually seen our kitchen.
Because we needed a wall removed and replaced with an island, she recommended David Kennard to do ther install. Dave and his assistant, Adam, came out to give us the installation estimate. We were so glad that Joyce recommended them. They gave us an exact estimate and also gave us alot of suggestions. It was amazing how knowledgeable they are. These guys do it all....tear down, cabinet install, lighting, plumbing and electrical. Dave and Adam came out the same day the cabinets were delivered. They insisted on making sure everything was there and wasn't damaged in any way. They found (1) tiny little chip on one of the cabinet faces and they ordered a new one. It was very obvious that these guys have alot of pride in their work.
Because the holidays were closing in on us, they made a special effort to get the cabinets in so that we could get our countertops measured and ordered.
We contacted Lowes to get the countertop people there to measure. (They sub-contract to a company called Roma Tile and Marble out of Syracuse, NY)
THIS IS WHERE THE PROBLEMS BEGAN!!
It took them a couple of days to get out to measure. The gentleman that came out to do the measuring told us that we needed to get some sort of supports to hold up the part of the counter on the island. We asked him what we should get and he told us to go back to Lowes and have them show us. We went back to Lowes and they couldn't understand why Roma didn't help us with it, !! It seemed to us that if they sell countertops, they should sell the necessary supports.since they don't sell any specific supports. When we asked about having to pick out the actual piece of granite, because it was so close to black (with a few gold flecks in it) that we wouldn't have to go to Syracuse and pick it out.
It took them 4 weeks to get our granite. When the installers came to install it, my wife called me and said that she didn't think that the color of the countertops was right. I left work and by the time I got there, the countertops were pretty much installed. The granite was a mixture of black with alot of gold marbling and gray. Since all of our new appliances were black, it was very obvious. These countertops are brown, NOT black!! We mentioned it to the installers and they said that if we had any problem, to call Roma and they would take care of any problems. These were obviously NOT the countertops we wanted.
We contacted Roma. The owner (?) came out and looked at the granite and told my wife that they had "changed the colors" somewhat and this is what the stone looked like!! He was, apparently, very rude to my wife and told her that there was nothing he was going to do and if we had a problem, take it up with Lowes. We called Joyce (at Lowes) to let her know what happened. She said that she was going to talk to management. At this point (1/12/2012), we haven't heard anything.
STAY TUNED.....WE ARE WAITING TO HEAR FROM EITHER LOWES OR ROMA.
One of the things that has bothered me, since we contracted the job, is that Lowes wants 100% of the money (Materials AND labor!!) BEFORE the job is even started!! Lowes did their part as expected...Daqve and Adam did theirs (over the top) but....at this point, I would have to say that you should get your countertops from somebody else. Maybe Lowes can get them from someone other than ROMA.
IF I GET ANY SATISFACTION FROM EITHER LOWES OR ROMA, I WILL POST THE RESULTS ON HERE. It's too bad that ROMA is associated with Lowes. Joyce Baker (our consultant at Lowes in Henrietta, N.Y.) spent several hours with us designing a complete remodel of our kitchen. She was very knowledgable on helping us choose the cabinets, countertops, positioning of appliances, etc.. We chose Kitchenaide cabinets and granite countertops. Because we needed walls removed, Joyce recommended Dave to be the installer. We're glad she did. After we contracted the job to Lowes, Dave was sent out to estimate the labor.
Dave and Adam arrived on time (always) and spent a couple of hours with us. They listened to what we wanted and offered some real good suggestions on some things that we never thought of. Their idea of a double level island was the best thing we did. When the cabinets arrived, they came out to make sure everything was there and inspected each piece.
These guys know how to schedule their work...the cabinets were installed and the island was built 4 days after the cabinets arrived!!
We then had to order the countertops (also through Lowes). The experience with the countertops hasn't been as good.
After the granite was installed, Dave and Adam came back 1 day later and installed the sink, dishwasher, and plumbing.
These guys are the greatest. Their workmanship is excellent, they cleaned up every day and all in all did just a fantastic job. We love the new kitchen and so thankful that we used some of their suggestions. Don't think twice about these guys. It was an excellent experience. Together we had laid out a plan on the work to be done and the order that it is to be done. An email was sent to him to confirm this and for him to use as there was a lot of work to be done. The order of work was done because of the many plants to be moved as well as Iris's to be dug up, split, and moved. He started with the overgrowth behind the stone wall and that went well. When he started to work throughout the yard he did not have control of anything. His men rototilled up perennial plants that were supposed to be moved, chopped up the roots of ornamental trees as well as mulching area's without putting down weed paper (installing the paper was part of the job). Instead of weeding his men used a tiller and just chopped up the tops of the weeds, leaving the roots to grow in a day or two. I inspected the work after the second day of him and his crew being here (first day for his men at my home). I explained he was doing work in area's that were supposed to be at the end of the job, chopping up plants and roots, and not going according to the plan. Mark had not even looked at the email we sent and was relying on memory to do the job. I immediately canceled the job with him and we agreed on a price for the work he and his crew had already done inspite of him ruining plants and possibly trees. Horrible service . Once they were done it looked like something that I would do myself on a weekend . They left parts of the old landscape fabric showing , they didn’t bring enough stone to cover the landscaping so now there are patches weeds and dirt mixed in with the new stone and plants ....

"We contacted Matt to demolish a very old deck and build a new Trex composite deck, stairs and railing. The entire base support structure of the old deck needed to be replaced, including attachment points to the home that were rotted due to poor design and flashing of the prior deck. When looking for a contractor we researched many options. We eliminated contractors who seemed to only occasionally build a deck, those who had a different primary focus area, and those who did not often do composite decking. Initially, we found Matt's business listed on the Trex website as a certified TrexPro Gold installer. After then reading his positive reviews across AngliesList, Facebook, & Google, and seeing photos of many projects that appeared to be the type of work we were looking for, we reached out. Communication was excellent from the initial quote through completion of the project. The quality of the work and attention to detail was excellent. The project was a notable investment in our home, but we are very pleased with the results would highly recommend Matt to others."

"I waited a year to rate the work provided by Piccirillo enterprises. Tony was very professional in conversation. We hired him based on reviews. He had instead of the crew to work on our house one person and occasionally he came, not often. The work lasted two months longer than projected. The finished product overall looks nice. However after a year I've now had the plumbing fixed in the kitchen and both bathrooms. The problems were basic plumbing not done properly and leaking water caused more issues. I would not recommend hiring this person as you get presented with a plan that sounds great, then in retrospect get to pay thousands to finish the job so it not only looks nice but it actually functions properly. His worker Adam did the majority of the job and as I said it looks nice, but all the major things I had fixed were installed with Tony present. I did reach out to Tony about the issues and he offered to come look at the problems, but after spending alot of money to fix other issues i decided it was in my best interest that I hired another business to fix the problem."
