"The job went prefect . They were competitively priced . The men arrived the first day and you knew they were professional's . They were able to tell you the amount of days for completion of the job on the first day . They worked very neatly .Putting a metal roof on is art form, the roof looks great. "Dan& sons installed a pitched metal burgundy roof, porch roofs & matching carport, on my 150 year old Fort Plain home. I have also left a previous review of their residential stainless steel siding job. Included is a photo of the original house when we bought it in 2008. Dan & sons Levi, David, & Junior, have not just transformed the house, but saved it. They work with the highest integrity and their work is outstanding. Their prices are affordable and competitive. I can recommend them with no hesitation."

"Utica Roof Pros are THE company to hire if you are looking for quality work at a reasonable price. John from Utica Roof Pros met with me and explained everything that would be done. He was able to give me an estimate within just a few minutes. Our project was a roof on a parsonage that was in serious need of replacement. They installed it within one day (including full clean up) and it was done ahead of schedule. The shingles they use are Owen's Corning and have a 50 year warranty on the product and 10 year on workmanship. That is hard to beat! John was extremely professional and knowledgeable at every step of the way. Their pricing is very reasonable for the quality they deliver! Thank you Utica Roof Pros!"

"This company was amazing to work with. They were initially supposed to do part of the roof, but ended up doing the full roof for a very competitive price. The only place where I would take away points is how the owner collected payment. He seemed very offputting and rude when it was time to make payment as if we were not going to pay him for the job."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Whether you should choose a flat roof or a sloped roof depends on your particular situation. Flat roofs tend to be less expensive to install. However, sloped roofs have longer lifespans and stand up better to heavy snow and other inclement weather.

Keep in mind that even a flat roof needs to have a slight slope, usually around 1/2 inch for every foot. If it is completely flat, water will pool and cause damage, either from weight or leakage or rot.

Gaps between tiles are necessary to help with weatherproofing, allow for thermal expansion, and increase wind resistance. In general, a small gap no larger than 3 millimeters wide will encourage proper drainage and limit cracking. Beyond that, tiles should overlap a minimum of 3 inches, except at the eaves where they should extend to the center of the gutter.

Whether replacing the entire roof or just installing roof shingle replacements in small areas, always pull up the old roof shingles. While you can technically put new roof shingles (but not other roof materials) over old shingles, this can add weight strain to the roof and prevent the new shingles from securing properly to the roof.

Unfortunately, there’s no definitive answer to this question, but the wind rating of your shingles will give you a good idea of what wind speeds can damage your roof. If you’re concerned about damage, inspect your roof following windy conditions to look for signs of wind damage to your shingles. When in doubt, consider hiring a professional who fixes roofs to carry out an expert inspection. Remember that hurricanes, tropical storms, and tornadoes are likely to cause the most damage, but even severe thunderstorms can bring winds that compromise your roofing system.

The roof overhang, also known as the eaves, does count as part of the roof’s square footage because it must be covered with the roofing material. The overhang is one of the reasons why you can’t base your roof's square footage on the square footage of the house. The roof square footage must also account for the pitch of the roof as well as the eaves.
