"I would wager it's pretty rare that your relationship with a contractor is so smooth, so collaborative and so easy that they become a legitimate friend... but that's what happened with Dave Nessel and me. He came recommended by our architect, and we hired Dave to build our custom 3br, 3ba modern home in the woods of Woodstock, NY. He was head and shoulders above the other contractors we interviewed in terms of thoroughness, communication, availability and ease of collaboration. The home he built was within 5% of our agreed-upon budget (and that 5% wasn't even his fault — it was unknowable site complications) and we did it 3-months faster than anyone else quoted us was possible. Dave navigated massive supply chain issues without a single delay to the project through his organization and foresight. But more importantly, our home is beautiful and Dave was an absolute pleasure to work with. I simply cannot sing his praises any higher (and have recommended him to 3 different friends since)"

"I had received several quotes for this project and I chose remodeling concepts because contracter Derek was the most organized, prepared, and professional of all the candidates. Additionally, he had the most realistic understanding of the job and its potential challenges. His price was also very fair and competitive. As the project moved forward, my initial impression was continuously validated. He persevered through a challenging permit process, never failing to communicate throughout the duration of the project. He showed up days after the permit was obtained and completed the project within a week. His crew was extremely professional and respectful of our property. Derek was on-site throughout the entire process to ensure the job exceeded our expectations, which it did. The completed project was absolutely incredible, down to the last detail. He not only has a talent for construction but he truly has an eye for design as well. The price never changed regardless of some unforeseen challenges and the communication from Derek and his partner Valerie was consistent and informative throughout the entire process. I could not imagine working with anyone else but Derek and his crew. have already asked him to work on two other projects in my home! Highly recommended A++++"

"From the very beginning, and throughout the entire process, Mark Michaels of Great Designs Inc was an absolute pleasure to work with as my business expanded into a new commercial space. Mark was extremely responsive and communication was always prompt and efficient. The architectural drawings he created were completed much faster than expected and the ability to view the space in 3D and do a virtual walkthrough was fantastic. Aside from creating the drawings, Mark went above and beyond my expectations as he sought out various contractors that focus on the specialized type of work I needed to have done. Also, on several occasions, Mark was sure to contact the town and other agencies to check that various codes and requirements would be met. It was a great comfort knowing that Mark was taking the time to ensure every detail was covered. This proved to be especially helpful when applying for the numerous permits. Based on my experience with Mark Michaels, I highly recommend him to anyone seeking his services and I would not hesitate to contact him the next time the need arises."

Garages questions, answered by experts

Indoor propane heaters are safe to use in a garage. You may be able to use an outdoor propane heater inside a garage in some instances, as long as the garage door remains open and there’s constant airflow to allow the carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide to escape. Other garage heaters include electric heaters and gas heaters.

When it comes to hurricane garage doors, you don't have to sacrifice style for safety. Many manufacturers offer customization options, allowing you to design a door that not only protects your home during storms but also complements its overall look. You can choose from various materials, colors, finishes, and features to match your home's architectural style and personal taste. Whether you prefer a sleek modern design or a more traditional look, there's a customization option for you.

Hearing or feeling vibrations in your house can be unsettling, but there are a few possible causes for a vibrating noise in your wall or floor. Light bulbs and fixtures, circuit breakers, loose pipes, or faulty wiring could all cause vibrations. If you’re not sure what’s causing the vibrations, you can call a contractor to assess your home and narrow down the cause.

While the benefits of garage door screens usually outweigh the downsides, there are some cons to installing one. First off, they can be quite expensive, especially if you’re having a professional install a retracting screen or a custom size screen. Second, they let fresh air and natural light in, but they also don’t provide the same privacy from people in the neighborhood that a solid door does. As you might guess, screens also won’t insulate your garage, so they’re often not usable in colder weather.

Yes, you can pressure wash epoxy floors, but you must take precautions to avoid damaging the surface. While most epoxy floors can be cleaned with a mop, you might choose to pressure wash if the floor is stained, has ground-in dirt, or is covered with mold or mildew. To do so safely, first soak any stains or dirty areas with a gentle cleanser. Use a lower pressure setting with a gentle nozzle, such as a green, white, or black tip, or a 45-degree angled tip. Keep the spray nozzle at least 18 inches away from the floor to protect the surface. Using a surface cleaner attachment or a rotary scrubber can also help prevent overspray. Be cautious if using a power washer that heats the water, as the combination of heat and pressure may be too powerful and could damage the epoxy coating.
