Depending on the method you choose to remove grass, it may or may not matter whether the grass is wet or dry when you perform the task. A dryer lawn will be easier to negotiate with a sod cutter, especially if you're not planning to reuse the turf. However, you’ll need to consider your location and lawn care—grass that incurs more rain or fertilizer tends to grow faster than those in drier climates. Another thing to contemplate is mowing your grass to the correct height . Most grasses should stay around 2 to 3 inches, although several warm-weather grasses do better shorter—at 1 ½ to 2 inches.

There are plenty of products to help green up your grass. Try an iron supplement spray or fertilizer that is rich in nitrogen. You can also apply a thin layer of compost on top of your lawn at the beginning of spring to give the grass a nutrition boost, which helps it achieve that bright color you are looking for. 

During normal temperatures, you should mow about once per week. However, if your grass is distressed by extreme heat, you should avoid mowing it altogether. Wait until after an irrigation session or rainfall. That way, your grass will be good and hydrated before you mow. Remember, you should not mow the grass when it’s wet. Wait until it dries first.
