We had a mystery leak in our 10-year-old TPO rubber roof. Three roofers looked at the roof and said it’s in excellent condition otherwise. Two made repairs that didn’t stop the leak, although to be fair, both said they may need to come back with Plan B. Frustrated, we contacted Phelps Brothers Roofing for an estimate on a new roof. Rob came out and said he’d like to sell us a new roof, but we don’t need one. He and I were up there for some time while he searched for the source of the leak. He found it and repaired it. We know this company does great work and recommend them to anyone who needs a new roof or repair. We have to wonder if we called any other company, would we have dealt with someone less honest than Rob. Thank you.

We don't have the biggest roof, and it's pretty low pitched with no weird angles or anything out of the ordinary. A large crew came right on time on the schedule start day (per Rob, they typically arrive around 7am, and our crew was no different). They had all of the old shingles removed and the new ones on by about 1pm. After they cleaned up, they headed out (presumably to their next job?), leaving a much smaller crew to complete the soffits. Unfortunately, we had some rain, so they were unable to complete the soffits that day, but they advised they would be back first thing in the morning around 7am. And they were! They were all done & ALL debris cleaned up (not a nail to be found!) within a few hours. Rob stopped by shortly thereafter for payment & to make sure I was happy with the work (which we are!). Total charge was the same as quoted, so done deal! Couldn't have gone better!

Phelps Bros had done work for several of our neighbors, who were quite satisfied with their work ("They'll treat you right!").  In early fall of 2011, I contacted Phelps Bros about replacing our roof.  In September, one of the owners came by and gave us an estimate, which we accepted, and said they could probably get it done by December.  The work was done in late January, done well, and they cleaned up.

Last summer a strip at the bottom began peeling off, and I asked Phelps to repair it.  In July one of the owners came by and said they would put a new strip on.  After numerous calls and emails, in November, four months later, one of their workers came by and covered the loose strip.  The work was done thoroughly and it looks well done.

In sum, Phelps seems to do good work and stands behind their work.  However, they aren't prompt and miss their own deadlines.

I would hire them again and recommend them to others, with this caveat.

The roof  had been put in during the summer. Come winter snows, we had a disaster. Whereas the previous roof had not leaked in 20 years, the new roof cause a leak at the juncture between our family room and kitchen. The company came back 3 times but did nothing to alleviate the problem. Right now we are still emptying buckets of water. This spring we shall have to get in a new company to correct this problem. They will probably have to add new facing between the house and the roof.  Phelps brothers insisted the problem was the roof design, some of which I can agree with; however the original roof never leaked in 20 years. The above (month and day) is approximate.

They provided a written estimate on the date scheduled after examining the roof and understanding the problems we were having. They gave me a installation date out a few months due to workload which was fine with me. Before the scheduled timeframe, they called and indicated that they could move the date up to the coming week which also worked for me. Their crew arrived on the date scheduled as promised. Over the next two days, their crew (at least 6 guys at one point) completed all the work. They even replaced a outside light high in the eves that had been out for a few years. They did a good job of cleanup and also did a sweep of the yard around the roof with a device with magnets that picked up the majority of the old roofing nails that landed in the grass. All their guys that I spoke with were very professional. Final price was the same as written estimate. The roof looks great and I have had no problems in the two months since they put it on. Will have to wait till winter to see if we still have any ice dam problems but I dont expect any based on my observation on them putting on the actual shield layer.

It went very well, I was very happy with the service Phelps Bros provided. Ed was professional, polite and knowledgeable. He fixed the immediate problem and didn't try to sell me anything else. I was dreading the thought of how much this was possibly going to cost, but it was amazingly reasonable. He took a look at the entire roof and noted that some other problems which will need attention, although not immediately, and he will be getting back to me with estimates for those. He took a good deal of time to explain what the problems were and how they could be addressed. I would definitely call on him to come back and finish my roof, and I wouldn't hesitate to refer him to anyone else I know of who has roofing needs.

After not contacting me to schedule the work like the owner said he would, I contacted him and he sent over one of his workers. When the worker arrived he told me there was no need to remove the shingles and that he and the owner had disagreed in the past about this. He just replaced the flashing and never removed a single shingle to look for the leak. He was there under two hours, did a fraction of the work and still wanted the full amount of the quote. As long as the roof was repaired, I was fine with this. The worker advised me to call him is there were any additional problems.

Every time it rained after this there were leaks. He did show up a couple times and put some silicone here and there, however, he rarely answered his phone or returned messages and wouldn't give me a time he was coming over so I could arrange to be home and monitor what he was doing. Eventually, he stopped returning calls all together and the problem persisted.

I called the owner back at this point and explained the problem. He basically said that he did everything he said he would and any other problems would be at an additional cost. I don't agree with that assessment. I brought them in to fix a porch leak. The owner recommended the above repair. First of all, his worker didn't do what the owner said and take up the shingles and look for the leak. And secondly, replacing the flashing didn't fix the leak. I shouldn't have to pay extra because his worker didn't do the quoted work or that the owner's repair didn't solve the problem. If the roof is still leaking after the repair, in my opinion you didn't fix the problem which you were brought in to do.

I understand that identifying and fixing roof leaks is often problematic, and can require several attempts to get things right. However, Phelps and his employee didn't and quot;work with meand quot;; they didn't give any indication that they cared that their failed and quot;solutionand quot; didn't work; and then they simply ignored me. For this they received $950 that they didn't honestly earn. This has already cost them one full roofing job my father was soliciting bids for, a job which will cost in the range of $7000-$8000. There was no way my father would even call Phelps for a quote after their unprofessionalism.

Our new roof looks beautiful! They are not the cheapest in town, but one does not want to skimp on a major repair such as a roof. Came highly recommended from our realtor who has used them for previous clients in the area with no complaints. They charged exactly what the estimator said, came exactly when they said they would, brought in a huge crew of workmen (and gt;6 people and a supervisor and a dump truck to haul away the old shingles), finished the whole job in just two days. Installation was very professional, they were careful to board up our glass doors so there would be no damage from falling debris, they laid down wooden planks so the dump truck would not tear up our lawn. We are very happy with the results!

It was very good. They were very reasonably priced. They did a very good job on my roof. It was right to the point. They came, they quoted me a price, they stuck to it and that was pretty much it.
