"I hired Do It Right Plumbing for the first time today. They arrived promptly, early even and were very down to earth, knowledgable and their price was reasonable. I felt comfortable having them in my home and would hire these pros again any day. Thanks Dylan and Steve. My toilet works again!"

"He was Responsive and on time. Unfortunately the leak in our toilet did not show up for him while he was there So that problem remains. He did fix our shower and it works like a charm. Was very conscious of cost and our time. Very much appreciated. He helped us while we were dealing with some difficult family circumstances."

"I scheduled an appointment for a Wednesday on a Monday morning. I called to confirm details and was pleasently surprised when they were able to come that Monday afternoon due to a weather related resecheduling of a job. I received a text when they were on route and they arrived on time. They quickly accessed the situation and correctly identified the cause and location of the clogged drain. The Warrens, a father and son run business, were a pleasure to work with. Their communication throughout the incident was excellent. If fact I wil be using their service on additional plumbing work in the near furture."

"Mr. Rooter (Syracuse, NY) installed my tankless water heater. Professional in every way. Quoted me a price and adjusted it based on what I wanted. The price was right. Estimate Wednesday afternoon, and the job was completed the next day. Very well done. I absolutely recommend Mr. Rooter."

Toilets questions, answered by experts

Putting caulk around a toilet’s base where it touches the flooring can help hold the toilet in place. A more effective way is using caulk with plastic shim wedges. Place the shims underneath the base to steady and stabilize the toilet. Add some caulk to help keep the shims in place and provide a stronger and more lasting stabilization effect.

Many homeowners stress about cleaning before an emergency plumber arrives, but you’re far better off doing the following while you wait for your plumber to get to your home:

  • Shut the water off at your water main if you have a leak or a burst pipe

  • Avoid using any water fixtures in your home, including appliances

  • Clear a path to the problem area so that it’s easily accessible

  • Consider shutting your breaker if you’re concerned that the leak may affect your electrical system

While a leak may seem small, even a gentle trickle of consistent moisture can lead to mold problems in your bathroom. Make sure you know how to check for mold if your toilet has been leaking for a while. Pooling water by your toilet also poses a risk for someone slipping on the slick floor of your bathroom. Finally, a leak of any size can lead to water waste that increases your water bill.

Silicone-based caulk is known for its waterproofing qualities, so it’s the best option for any bathroom area. While it’s often more expensive, it will provide a better, longer-lasting seal than acrylic or latex caulk. Use it along the base of the toilet to prevent leaks and keep the area clean and protected.

Yes, frozen pipes can prevent a toilet from working correctly. If the pipes are frozen, water cannot flow, which means your toilet tank won't be able to refill after a flush. This will prevent the toilet from flushing again. Depending on which lines are frozen, the ice can also block the drain pipe, preventing water from flushing away.

As a temporary workaround, you can manually add water to the tank for each flush. To clear a frozen drain pipe, you can try filling the toilet bowl or tank with warm water and flushing to help thaw the ice. However, the best long-term solution is to unfreeze the pipes to get your toilet back in working order.
