Eric is friendly and likable.
He gave us a good price for our deck.
Eric built our deck last summer 2014.
During the process, he uncovered rotted wood in our existing upper deck and communicated well about that.
He showed up and did the work at a decent pace.
Eric was reasonably responsive up until the deck was about 80% done.
The problem came when I simply could not get him to come back and finish it.
I called and texted Eric endless times. He kept promising to come by and finish but never did. As fall 2014 came, I texted basically begging him to finish up the deck before winter came. He didn't respond.
The baffling this is that there wasn't much to be finished so he easily could have done it. The flat railing ledge on the bottom part of the deck is not complete. Even though there isn't much to finish, it's very visible and looks terrible. All summer (last summer AND this summer) I had guests over and every time I looked at the unfinished parts it made me angry because Eric blew us off at the end and simply would not complete the job.
At the end of this summer we now see that there are additional problems - there many boards warping quite badly and the railing is weak.
I texted Eric on Monday August 16 2015 letting him know that I was planning to write a review on Angie's List, not to be vindictive but to provide real feedback for others. I wanted to give him a final chance before I did that to come and make things right with our deck.
This is how he responded:
"I thought we had finished everything. I have only focused on flip houses this summer and have not taken on any other jobs. I'm about 1 mile from you on Tuesday-Thursday. What needed to be finished."
He thought we had finished everything? I honestly texted and called him no less than 20 times last summer and he kept telling me he would come and finish it. So him not remembering he had anything left to do was quite alarming.
I had to go out of town so I told him to contact my husband. When he did, he told my husband that he had done some work for us that we hadn't paid for and owed him. Wow. He refused to finish our deck, and was actually claiming we owed him money. In reality, we ended things last summer with a $300 credit, so if anything HE owed US. But I was willing to let that go if he would just come and finish my deck.
I texted him on 8/24/15 saying:
"{My husband} mentioned something about us not paying you for work? We ended things with a $300 credit, so if anything you owe us. If you want to come finish your deck job please set up a time with {my husband} by the end of the week. Otherwise let's just call this quits."
He never responded.
This professional performed magic in both bathrooms and I'm thrilled with the results!
