"I contacted Michael Grimm Services when it became clear that the two large poplars that were encroaching on my roof were likely to cause damage. I had called another company several weeks prior, but that company had failed to provide an estimate within a two-week period and eventually, after being contacted again, had stated that they were not equipped to do the job. My experience with Michael Grimm was completely different beginning with my initial phone conversation with the receptionist. An estimate, as promised during that call, was sent to my email address two days later. Frankly, I think we got scammed because we were women, but any company that would do that isn't above board, so there it is."

While it may be less expensive initially to lay concrete vs. pavers, the long-term expenses that come with repairing concrete may prove to be less cost-friendly than simply replacing a few damaged pavers. On top of that, stamped concrete may only last for 25 years compared to pavers, which can last over 50 years.

You can walk on newly sealed pavers as long as they’ve had enough time to dry and cure—typically after 24 hours for patios and walkways. Even so, don’t rush it. Humidity, temperature, and the type of sealant you use can stretch that window up to 72 hours. Rushing it can leave footprints or even damage the finish, especially if the surface hasn’t fully hardened. For driveways, wait at least three full days before parking or driving over them. Always check your sealant label for the most accurate timeline, since not all products cure the same way.

While water-related pressure caused by poor drainage is one common cause of paver cracking, other factors can include ground movement beneath pavers, heavy loads and wear and tear over the pavers, and climates with constant freeze-thaw cycles. In general, pavers should be resealed every three to five years to prevent cracking.

If you're designing a new patio in an area with poor drainage, permeable pavers made from porous materials may help prevent water issues. Most permeable pavers feature a gravel-only aggregate base instead of a concrete base to allow water to flow through instead of getting trapped. While beneficial in some cases, permeable pavers come with higher initial costs and greater load-bearing limitations compared to traditional pavers.

The best way to cut concrete pavers is with a circular saw or angle grinder, but you’ll need a diamond blade made for cutting masonry. If you have a lot of cuts to make, you may want to opt for a wet saw to cut your pavers instead.
