"Took 3 visits but was well worth the time, attention and patience to get the job done right. First day was inspection and quote for repairs/materials. Work started that day to patch the cement crown that was cracked and channeling water down one side of the chimney eroding bricks. A bowed metal plate on the chimney to shed water between the two flue caps was flattened and sealed with cement so it did not show from the ground and so flies would stop entering into the house thru one of the flues. Crumbling mortar was replaced between bricks and bricks were waterproofed. The chimney was measured and the cap to cover the entire chimney was ordered. The 2nd visit got rained out. The 3rd visit was a good weather day and the cap was assembled, installed and cemented in place. It is amazing how strong the animal guard around the 4 sides of the chimney is. The crew at all times was friendly, courteous & very competent being careful to do the entire project as if it was their home."

"I called for a free estimate, Justin came promtly and inspected the chimey. He showed me pictures of the problems and spelled out all the options. I explained to him that my cellar has floode due the problems and was anxious to get the repairs done. Justin quoted a price that was fair and much lower then any other estimates. To my surprise he said that he could do the job that day. He kept sending me pictures as the work progressed so I knew exactlywhat he was doing. He was professional and honest about what needed to be done. I was more then pleased with him and the company. I highly recommend .Chimneys are us."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

Regular fireplace service provides immediate safety benefits by reducing creosote buildup and ensuring reliable backup heat during severe winter power outages. Over the long term, consistent maintenance preserves your masonry against harsh freeze-thaw cycles and prevents costly structural water damage. Documented service histories also improve your home resale value while keeping your heating system compliant with strict NY fire codes and homeowner insurance policies.

Helpful?

The success of your fireplace service depends heavily on proper masonry curing and comprehensive waterproofing. High-quality flashing seals and crown treatments prevent water intrusion, which destroys chimneys in Buffalo's climate. Installing a durable stainless steel liner and maintaining a secure chimney cap also extend the lifespan of your system. Consistent annual inspections prevent dangerous creosote accumulation and guarantee your setup meets all local building codes.

Helpful?

Combining fireplace service with other home projects is a smart strategy for Buffalo homeowners. Schedule your chimney and HVAC inspections together in early fall before the first hard freeze. You should also consider pairing your service with attic air sealing to address heat loss. If your project involves exterior masonry work, complete it before mid-October to avoid unpredictable lake-effect snow that halts outdoor repairs.

Helpful?

After completing fireplace service, immediately test your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. New York state law mandates placing carbon monoxide alarms within fifteen feet of all sleeping areas. Keep your written service records secure, as insurers increasingly require documented annual inspections. Finally, check your exterior chimney masonry for moisture damage after the first hard freeze, and verify that your chimney cap remains secure following heavy snowstorms.

Helpful?

Build a reliable routine by splitting your fireplace service into two phases. Schedule a pre-season inspection between late August and early October to check the firebox, clear creosote, and assess the flue. Follow up with a post-season check in May to spot winter freeze-thaw damage and clear storm debris. Keep a dated log of these inspections to maintain insurance compliance and track long-term wear in your Buffalo home.
