"Rick did a FABULOUS job installing a replacement window over my kitchen sink. He very carefully removed all existing trim, installed the window quickly, and reinstalled the trim. He did a great job sealing and caulking everything. He brought all the right tools, cleaned things up as he went along, and left my kitchen looking better than ever. He was early, very friendly, and I will definitely recommend him to friends/family and will hire him for my next project! Price was very reasonable. Great job!!!"

Small jobs welcome

"Tom is more than a carpenter, more than just a handy man, a plumber, an electrician. He is a skilled craftsman, talented, reliable and generous with good advice. Over the past two years Tom has demonstrated his talents by helping improve my beautiful but somewhat outdated home. He has done everything from designing and building a new dressing room closet, to repairing and replacing light fixtures, and he is currently laying a new bathroom floor. He has even put my gas grill together! Lucky I was the day he responded to my Home Advisor call."

I am a local homeowner able and willing to help out on small to medium home and business projects. I have computer skills, data skills, and can also help with cleaning and handyman services, concrete repair, gutter cleaning, etc. I don’t have a truck and rent some equipment as needed. Everything is discussed ahead of time. You send me a request and I send an estimate with a brief plan. \n\nI prefer to help locally and focus on our community and neighbors, including businesses and multi-unit homes as needed.

Caulking Services questions, answered by experts

In Buffalo, common mistakes include skipping required permits, underestimating the impact of winter weather on materials, and using supplies not rated for local conditions. Some homeowners overlook consulting the Department of Permit and Inspection Services or fail to follow up with seasonal maintenance. To avoid issues, always check city guidelines, choose weather-appropriate materials, and plan for ongoing upkeep to protect your investment in Buffalo's climate.

Helpful?

In Buffalo, most handyman projects that involve structural changes, electrical work, or significant plumbing require permits from the Department of Permit and Inspection Services and may also need approval from the Buffalo Preservation Board for historic properties. For projects exceeding $25,000 or altering a building's structure, professionally prepared plans are required. Always verify requirements with these authorities before starting, as even some exterior repairs may require permits in Buffalo's regulated neighborhoods.

Helpful?

Excavation for mailbox repair work presents serious hazards to underground utilities. New York State law requires contacting 811 before digging to prevent hitting gas, water, or electric lines. Check for underground irrigation pipes or electrical wiring running to lighted masonry pillars. Digging near the curb also alters surface drainage patterns on flat Buffalo properties. Always consult a certified specialist to protect your home from accidental utility strikes or flooding.

Helpful?

For handyman projects in Buffalo, choose materials rated for the city's freeze-thaw cycles and heavy snowfall. Local hardware stores often stock weather-resistant fasteners, insulation designed for NY winters, and plumbing fixtures that meet city plumbing code standards. Using locally sourced lumber and exterior paints formulated for Buffalo's climate helps ensure durability. Consult with local suppliers familiar with Buffalo's building codes for tailored recommendations on supplies and tools.

Helpful?

In Buffalo, homeowners often underestimate how the region’s weather can delay exterior maintenance or repairs. Overlooking the need for permits, especially for electrical or plumbing updates in older homes, is a frequent issue. Attempting DIY repairs without considering lead paint or asbestos risks is another common mistake. Clear communication about property access and parking is also crucial to avoid project delays and neighborhood disruptions.
