"I felt the need to write this review, although technically Greg and I have never done business. In the recent round of rain storms, my sump pump stopped working as it is supposed to, and I ended up with about 5 inches of groundwater in the basement. I was able to get the sump pump working again, but 3 days after it stopped raining, I was still getting a lot of water in the pit. I found a sticker for Contractors Waterfproofing, and figured they might of installed the system for the old owners, so I gave them a call. From the moment he picked up Greg was service oriented and responsive. He asked for my address to look up the job, and when he couldn't find it, he called back within 5 minutes to ask what was going on. I explained the problem, and he immediately told me that was normal for my part of town, and told me I just needed to replace the pump and I would be fine. He offered me a price that was half what his competitors charge, and was willing to explain the whole job in detail."

"I really liked CT Basement systems. The sales rep walked me through the process of the basement SaniDry I had installed. When the installer came it turned out that I didn’t need all of the duct work and I was able to save a few hundred bucks. The installer was very professional, neat and helpful . I definitely will hire this company again. Customer service even followed up with me a few days later and had to remind me to register the system (good thing because I had forgotten)."

"

Our shower was dripping.  We had called another plumber, who said he couldn't get to us until July.  My husband called Atomic Rooter from work.  They came to our house that evening, and completed the job in less than an hour.  They arrived on time and were courteous and professional.  The plumber had the part with him and was able to install it quickly without having to turn off the water in the house.  They accepted our credit card.  We would definitely use them again.

"My sewage ejector pump in basement would not stop running and I was looking to replace it. I texted Dean two pictures of the pump, he was able to give me a quote over text and the price was quite reasonable. He received a new pump on 5/22/2023 and came over to my house. After opening up the old pump and checking, he told me that the only thing that is really broken is the check valve, the switch got stuck but is still functioning, and the pump itself works fine. I ended up asking him to only replace the check valve and the switch and this saved me about $1000 from the original plan. I appreciate Dean's honesty, professionalism, and a job well done."

"recently had my kitchen and bathroom remodeled, and I can confidently say that hiring KG Plumbing was one of the best decisions I made during the entire project. From start to finish, the experience was smooth, professional, and stress-free. Kristian handled all the plumbing work for both spaces, including relocating fixtures, installing new pipes, and connecting all the appliances and bathroom features. The quality of the work was outstanding—everything was done efficiently, and with great attention to detail. What impressed me most was the clear communication throughout the project. Kristian took the time to explain what needed to be done, offered helpful suggestions, and worked seamlessly with the other contractors involved. He showed up on time, respected my home, and left the workspace clean every day. Now that the remodel is complete, everything works perfectly and looks great. I’ve already recommended Kristian to friends and family."

Sump Pump Installation questions, answered by experts

A sump pump's lifespan is typically 7 to 10 years, though the general range can be anywhere from 5 to 15 years. The specific type of pump is a major factor: pedestal sump pumps last an average of 20 to 25 years, whereas submersible sump pumps last between 5 and 15 years. While pedestal pumps are less expensive to service, they are also louder and more prone to clogging.

Several other factors influence longevity, including the pump's quality, usage frequency, and maintenance schedule. A high-quality pump that is well-maintained in a dry climate may last for two decades, while a lower-quality, poorly maintained pump in an area with a high water table or frequent flooding may fail in six years or less.

Regular maintenance, including annual inspections and tuneups from a professional, can significantly extend the pump's life. It is time to consider a replacement if your sump pump runs constantly, cycles frequently, shows visible rust or corrosion, or trips a circuit breaker. As a preventative measure, many homeowners replace their pumps every eight years. It's also worth noting that a manufacturer's warranty can indicate expected lifespan, and some home insurance policies may not cover water damage from a pump that is past its recommended replacement date.

One common reason a sump pump stops working is improper sizing. Different locations need different sizes and power ratings of sump pumps depending on the typical amount of water the pump needs to manage. If your sump pump is too small for the quantity of water, it can overwork and either burn out or reduce the life of the unit. If the pump is too big, it can overwork and burn out early.

Thankfully, you do have a few sump pump backup options in case it fails. One option is a battery-powered backup sump pump. Another option is using a portable backup generator as a power supply for your sump pump. Unlike a battery-powered backup which has limited power, a generator can run around the clock for as long as you need it.

Or you can opt for a water-powered backup pump, which uses your home’s water supply as a source of power. However, this may not be the best option if you find your house frequently has low water pressure.

If your sump pump isn’t engaging, it might be clogged with dirt and debris. Check to see if the fitting lid is loose and has been letting debris in. Next, check the float and make sure it’s not obstructed by rust or gunk, which results from insufficient maintenance. Tangled wires or damaged switching systems can also stop your sump pump from engaging.

Some sump pumps are powered by water rather than electricity. Water-powered sump pumps generally use one gallon of city water to pump out two gallons of water from its basin. Therefore, if you're looking at a potential 10,000-gallon flood, your sump pump will need to use 5,000 gallons of city water to prevent it.
