When I signed up through Angie?s List and paid $50 ($25 each for two windows) I got the confirmation email that Champion would contact me in a few days. They didn?t. I had to contact Angie?s List who gave me a number to call and I got something set up.
The salesman who came over to do the initial measurement had never heard of the Big Deal I signed up for. First he was trying to argue that it was $25 off per window. No it wasn?t. Then he was trying to get me to buy more windows so I could get a better
deal. By this time I was wary of Champion, so I stuck with what I had signed up for.
After he left, I realized something. The only way he was able to understand the deal was $225 off per window. So that was all
he took off my order. But I had paid $25 per window up front, so he should have taken off $250 per window. The balance they thought I owed was $50 too high. I immediately called and left a message for the district manager. Never heard back.
A few weeks later, the tech who did the final measurements came over. He was fine. He explained the district manager had been out with an injury. So I gave him another chance and called and left another message. Again, never heard back. When the windows were in and they called to schedule the installation, I said this had to get resolved first. Then they did take the disputed $50 off.
The actual installation went fine and the installer Brian did a good job. They seem like quality windows.
Your review makes me select Yes or No would I use Champion again. I'm not sure. Overall I am satisfied with the windows but the company really needs to work on responsiveness.
The details are going to be difficult as I have not as yet hired them, but did choose a perfect color. He unfortunately had no samples with him to leave so I contacted the supplier of the vinyl company chosen and they said they would be happy to send some to me. It is always nice to have a sample to set up against the house and if need be for some painting purpose take with you to Benjamin Moore to match. They have a financing plan which is great when you are older and cannot come up with as much cash as is needed to do the project. As was the case with myself. Would have them back any time for more information and he left his card so I could email with other concerns if need be. Wonderful experience. Great people, do not rush you, pressure you or worse get upset because you need time to contemplate such a costly venture.
The roof was installed the week after we finalized the deal with the salesman. This was provident as contractors from our area were not available until October or November, which is not ideal as shingles need warmth to lay flat after installation -- so Champion's timing was providential.
We were attracted to the company by a newspaper ad announcing they install Owens Corning roofing which reviewed well. Their price was $3,000 more than the estimates we got from contractors in our town, despite the error in our favor. but I believe that the materials were better quality. There had never been a complaint about them to the Better Business Bureau when we looked them up in September.
Our neighbor was a building manager in New York City before he retired, so I figure he knows his stuff. He made a point of coming over to say what a good job the installers had done.
The installation took almost two days instead of the anticipated one day because additional roofing had to be delivered because of the measurement mistake. (Also, for some reason, the work began 1 hour later than expected.) The two days to completion was faster than I would have anticipated with other contractors.
Our 20 year old roof had to be redone because the old roof was installed without adequate ventilation which shortened what should have been a 25 to 30 year life.. Champion employed a different venting system, and we believe they resolved the issue. Of course, only time will tell us for sure.
The clean up was well done. The installers used a magnet around the yard to ensure stray nails were picked up. They also left us three "squares" of roofing material in the event future repairs are needed.
Is it appropriate to mention that the one surprise was that the laborers were from Ecuador? They had green cards, etc per their very pleasant, informative supervisor, who was also from Ecuador, but who had been in this country 17 years. When the job was finished, the same supervisor walked around the house with me to see if there were any issues. I believe that his foreman was also supposed to check in with us, but we missed him when he came to pick up the left over materials (plywood, etc) as we were away from home.
