"Mr. Rooter (Syracuse, NY) installed my tankless water heater. Professional in every way. Quoted me a price and adjusted it based on what I wanted. The price was right. Estimate Wednesday afternoon, and the job was completed the next day. Very well done. I absolutely recommend Mr. Rooter."

"Although my situation was bad, Paladin Restoration was wonderful! I had some flooding in my finished basement.. After a phone call with Chris, he was there the next day to set up his equipment and get the room dry again. He worked around my schedule (which can be insane) without any issues at all. Super professional and caring! Definitely recommend these guys!"

"I used Raul for a few projects around the house. He contacted me immediately and left a voicemail once I posted the job. He did good work and was reasonably priced. We had a tough issue with a hidden open pipe buried in a tile wall, and he opened up the wall and found and fixed the issue which had been bothering us for years."

Toilets questions, answered by experts

Hiring an emergency plumber is expensive because of the urgency and inconvenience, but there are a few things you can do to help keep costs down:

  • Minimize water damage by shutting off your water main

  • Clean up pooling water immediately to reduce damage and mold growth

  • Avoid using fixtures if you have a clog or septic system backup

  • Verify that your plumber is licensed before hiring

  • Call a few plumbers for estimates if you can afford a short delay in getting service

To keep your toilet in good working order, replace the toilet fill valve every five years. Toilets get quite a workout, so while toilet maintenance may not be on top of your to-do list, it’s essential to keep up with it to ensure your toilet is in good working order and ready when needed.

Yes, and no. Your shower, toilet, and sink all connect to the same main drain, but the secondary drains going from each fixture to the main drain are usually separate. This isn’t always the case—especially in older homes—but since toilets contain black water and showers, tubs, and sinks have grey water, toilets are more regulated and come at a greater risk of contamination. It’s best to keep these drains separate using individual waste collection for this reason.

If you notice that your toilet is leaking puddles near the base, the leak is coming from your toilet bowl, and the water could be unsanitary. This is a situation that needs to be dealt with immediately—call a nearby plumbing repair pro right away. A contained leak from tank to bowl is not as urgent a situation, but it could be raising the cost of your water bill—have it looked at as soon as you can.

If you experience the telltale sign of wax ring failure, which is leaking water, replacing the faulty ring takes one to three hours, depending on accessibility. This is an exacting and time-consuming job, as several components must be removed for the plumber to access the ring. Once replaced, however, wax rings require little to no maintenance and last 30 years or longer.
