"Very professional, installed Heater and A/C cleaned up after they finished. Best value in town. Owner is honest and does not screw you over. I received several quotes from HVAC companies; one was $20,000 higher, the other $10,000.00 higher. Would highly recommend this company."

"I finally found a company that I will keep on file. They arrived on time, and cleaned out my drain in a short matter of time. He was very polite and professional. I will use them again. They handle many services that I may need help with in the future."

"Toby at Rubicon came right and fixed my unit out after another HVAC company was unable to fix the problem. I knew Toby at Rubicon was the right guy for the job from speaking with him on the phone, he asked all the right questions and came across as very consciensious. He's very knowledgeable, thorough and easy to work with. We will be using Rubicon for any future HVAC needs; they are the best company we have ever dealt with. The first company also said a new unit was needed and they quoted at $10,000. Toby at Rubicon was able to get the old up and running and confirmed that we didn't need a new unit. Rubicon has excellent prices, is very knowledgeable and extremely honest. Toby also provided a price for a new unit, which wasn't necessary after his evaluation, that was $3200 less than the price the first HVAC company"

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

To make the most out of your AC, consider implementing the following best practices:

  • Choose the right size AC for your home to ensure your unit runs as efficiently as possible.

  • Choose a window with shade, as direct sunlight can cause your AC unit to overheat.

  • Clean or replace the filter at least every two months.

  • Inspect the AC’s fan and straighten it if necessary.

  • Discontinue use immediately if you suspect a malfunction, as running the AC while broken can lead to significant issues.

  • Turn off (or adjust the temperature) when you leave the house.

Turn your system off when you're toasty or when you're out to prevent unnecessary wear. Using the timer on your thermostat so that it switches off when it reaches a certain temperature or turns on just before you get back from work is best. An annual maintenance contract can be helpful to ensure your system receives these important services at regular intervals.

If you’re planning an AC replacement, choosing an AC with a higher SEER rating may save you money in the long run. Tax credits could cover as much as 30% of the job, and you’ll notice smaller utility bills (particularly if you live in a hot climate where you need to constantly run the AC). Generally, you can expect to pay between $350 and $1,500 for each SEER rating increase. Weigh the cost against your typical utility bill to figure out what’s worth it to you.

If you’re shopping around for a rooftop AC unit, you may hear them referred to as “package units.” That’s because rooftop AC systems are all-in-one heating and cooling units that connect directly to your home’s ductwork. If your AC repair pro references a package unit, they are referring to the system on your roof.

Yes, you can clean AC coils yourself. Just make sure that the power to your AC system is off before you begin. You’ll need some basic tools and supplies, including a soft brush, cloth, screwdriver, and a commercial or homemade cleaning solution. Cleaning your coils will only cost about $10.
