"WOW! It was my first time getting flooring installed. Initially, I went through Home Depot and their installers, letâ s just say, they left within 3 hours with my house in disarray and told me I had to fix my subfloor first. Boooo! I called Kustom Billyâ s and right away he came into my house, fixed my subfloor and started install right away. My floors look amazing!!!! His professionalism and cleanliness were impeccable. Billy and his helper were very informative to any questions I had and very polite. I never thought my floors could look so beautiful, and I donâ t think I could have found a better Installer. I highly recommend Kustom Billyâ s for any job you may have, big or small. I couldnâ t have asked for a better experience!"

Caulking Services questions, answered by experts

In Reno, common mistakes include underestimating project complexity, using materials unsuited for the local climate, and neglecting to check permit requirements with the City of Reno Building Division. Skipping safety precautions or hiring unlicensed workers can also lead to problems. To avoid these pitfalls, double-check measurements, use high-quality materials, and always confirm your handyman's credentials with the Nevada State Contractors Board.

Helpful?

In Reno, most handyman projects under $1,000 that are strictly cosmetic—such as painting or minor repairs—generally do not require a building permit, according to the City of Reno Building Division. However, any work involving electrical, plumbing, HVAC, or structural changes must be permitted and performed by a licensed professional. Always verify requirements with the City of Reno Building Division before starting your project.

Helpful?

For handyman projects in Reno, consider sourcing materials from reputable local hardware suppliers known for quality and availability. Choose weather-resistant materials for exterior work, as Reno's climate can be dry and variable. Stock up on essential supplies like drywall, paint, and fasteners, and prioritize tools that meet Nevada's safety standards. Consulting experienced Reno handymen can also help you select materials that perform well in local conditions.

Helpful?

Reno’s climate calls for weather-resistant supplies like tarps, plastic sheeting, and premium exterior caulk. Keep stainless steel fasteners to combat snow and salt corrosion. Stock up on wood sealants, concrete patch kits, and snow-rated roofing materials. Essential tools include a multi-bit screwdriver, pipe wrench, level, stud finder, electrical tester, hammer, measuring tape, and safety gear such as gloves and dust masks for routine home maintenance.

Helpful?

In Reno, many homes feature slab foundations, older wiring, and interconnected HVAC systems. If your handyman service involves opening walls, updating plumbing, or electrical repairs—especially in homes built before 1980—other systems like heating or insulation may be impacted. Projects near load-bearing walls or radiant flooring should be carefully evaluated to prevent issues with your home’s structure or comfort.
