"Mike was great! He told us what to expect before he came to our house. I asked him to come in order to give us an estimate but he ended up fixing both of our problems while he was there! I will definitely use him again and I absolutely recommend his work!"

"The Dirty Plumber (Jack) is the only plumber we will use. Our problem started in December with a dripping shower head. After giving another company a month to solve the problem, including ordering the wrong part, we hired Jack. He knew immediately that the wrong part was ordered and had the right one within a week. Yes, our shower fixtures are old and high end, so when the handle wouldn’t work he again knew immediately what the problem was and showed up with the part to fix it! He is responsive, prompt, knowledgeable, plans ahead and stands behind his work. We have some future plumbing projects and he already has creative suggestions to save us money. Thank you Jack!"

"I have given Paul’s two chances to do the right thing and refund me for two separate visits, where two separate technicians, completely misdiagnosed, my oil, furnace, and didn’t even bother to see what the actual problem going on was. The first technician told me that it was just a fan switch that got turned on somehow that was causing it to only blow cold air. The issue was not fixed so a second one came out and I paid a second service call fee. This seemed odd, because they didn’t properly diagnose the problem the first time, but whatever. The second technician tried to tell me that the system was far too large for my 2000 square-foot house and was installed improperly and was creating a soot problem, and that it had to be completely replaced as What it would take to clean it would cost more than a new system. He also indicated that oil was completely obsolete now and basically told me that I would most likely need to convert to a completely different type of heating system upwards of $25,000. Something didn’t quite sit right with me, so when they reached out to see if I was ready to schedule an appointment to have the new electric heating system installed, I told them that we weren’t going to be doing it anytime soon since winter was now over. I ended up calling around and was referred to someone who specifically specializes in oil furnaces. He came out, ran some diagnostics and figured out that the only reason why it was blowing cold air was that it needed a good cleaning, and a new filter. That was all it needed in order to properly function. The furnace was not too big for the square footage of my house, and no, it was not improperly installed. The post technician also led me to believe that my furnace was installed in the early 90s. The new furnace technician actually checked the serial number and two spots confirmed that they both matched up, and told me that the serial numbers have a code in them that will tell you exactly when they were manufactured. Mine was manufactured in 2003, not the early 90s. He completed those tasks, and now my furnace works perfectly. The two technicians from Paul’s never even bothered to look at the oil filter. I am completely disgusted that a local company that touts that they’re so knowledgeable and heating systems. Completely failed to properly diagnose such a simple thing and tried to then sell me on a new $25,000 system. I called them to ask for a refund for the two service calls, as I should not be out that money when they failed miserably to properly diagnose the issue. I was assured that a manager named James would call me back promptly. And he never has. As a business owner myself, I cannot believe that a company would just blatantly refuse to do the right thing and make something right when they screw up so badly"

Sewer Cleaning questions, answered by experts

If you’re wondering whether rats can come up the toilet, the unfortunate answer is yes, it’s possible, though it’s extremely rare. These rodents are excellent swimmers and can travel through sewer pipes in search of food, and they may follow plumbing lines leading to your home if they’re drawn by the scent of scraps and waste. The toilet’s U-bend holds a small pocket of air, which can help a rat catch its breath before making its final push into your bathroom. While more common in cities with larger rat populations, this can happen anywhere with connected sewer systems; sealing entry points and keeping drains clean can help reduce the risk.

Yes, sewage smells can originate from a floor drain. If the P-Trap in the floor drain dries out or if there's a clog or other issue in the plumbing system, sewer gasses can escape through the drain, causing nasty odors. Regularly pouring water into the drain helps maintain the water seal and prevent those smells, but if the smell persists, you should have a plumbing professional inspect the drain for potential problems.

A sewer line should be cleaned at least once every 18 to 22 months. The process takes about 30 minutes or up to 5 hours, depending on the size of the line, how easy it is to access, and how long it’s been since the previous cleaning. If your sewer line hasn’t been cleaned in a couple of years or you don’t even know the last time it’s been cleaned, it’s time to call a pro.

Ideally, you might find that you only need to clean the sewer line or remove a clog from the main line. That costs $200 to $300. However, “sewer main clogs can cost upwards of $1,000 to clear, depending on what is causing the clog, distance from accessible cleanouts to the clog, and whether there is occupied space below the clogged line (apartment buildings, condos, etc.),” says Botelho.

Black Friday, also known as the day after Thanksgiving, is one of the busiest days of the year for plumbers. Plumbing pros receive many service requests for clogged drains, garbage disposal issues, and clogged sewer lines. Don’t hesitate to call a plumber on Black Friday if you experience emergency plumbing problems.
