"Grantt came out to take a look at my property and give me an estimate. He was very courteous very professional and gave me a fair price. He said he has two crews that work on projects so this morning a crew of three or four guys came out and started to work. They cleaned up my yard. Mow the grass, trimming and cleaned up the weeds. It looks absolutely stunning. I can’t overestimate that I mean stunning with all capital letters. They’re all really good guys to talk to and they did excellent work. I highly recommend them. I will be using them more in the future for sure."

Topsoil should go down first. If the topsoil is next to your house, make sure the grade slopes away from the house to keep water from pooling against your foundation and possibly leaking into your basement or crawl space. Don’t cover your decorative landscape mulch with topsoil as that defeats the purpose of laying down the mulch. If you’re trying to create a certain soil composition to improve plant growth, you’ll likely want compost mixed into the topsoil instead of mulch. Over time, any decorative wood mulch will simply decompose under the topsoil.

A base layer is typically required when installing artificial grass, and the specific materials depend on the surface where the turf is being placed.

If you are installing artificial grass over soil, you should lay down a sub-base and a weed barrier.

  • Weed Barrier: A fabric weed barrier, weed membrane, or geo-textile paper is essential to prevent weeds from growing through and damaging the turf.

  • Sub-base: This layer provides drainage, support, and prevents the turf from sinking. Common materials include a mixture of gravel and sand, such as crushed miscellaneous base (CMB), decomposed granite, decomposed limestone, or a specifically mixed road base. Other options include silica sand and granite sand.

If you are placing turf over a hard surface like concrete, you can often skip the sub-base and use a padded underlayment or shock-absorbent material like astro-cushion for comfort and safety.

If you are unsure which materials are best for your specific project, it's a good idea to consult with an artificial turf installer.

No one likes running out of materials during a project, so calculating the right amount of gravel needed for your driveway is an absolute must. Multiply your driveway’s length by width by the depth of the gravel (in feet). For gravel depth, convert to a decimal (i.e., 4 inches is 0.33 feet). This will give you the cubic feet of material that you need. 

If you’re looking for cubic yards, divide that above number by 27.

First, dig a hole that’s the same depth as the root ball and wide enough for the roots to spread out fully. Before placing the tree in the hole, pour water in to help get rid of any air pockets in the soil.

When filling the hole back in, opt for a 1:1 ratio of organic compost with the soil left over from the ground. Do not use potting soil, fertilizer, or chemicals of any kind, as these can stress out and kill your newly planted tree.
