"We heard of all service moving from a family members’ recommendation. Move went very smoothly! Nathaniel, SeaBass and Dominic really took care of our furniture, everything was neatly wrapped up so nothing would get damaged. Would hire again!"

Small jobs welcome

"We moved from Canada to the U.S. as a family, and at first it felt like a lot to take on. The process moved forward steadily, our things were handled carefully, and nothing went missing or got damaged. Everything arrived in Denver when expected. For a move of this size and distance, it stayed manageable and didn?t turn into the chaos we were worried about."

"Fresh Start did a wonderful job of moving us! They responded to my inquiry within one day, gave me a firm quote within a few hours, and scheduled themselves to load the day after Christmas. They were polite, professional, and obviously VERY experienced at their job. They showed up about 15 minutes early. In spite of a snowstorm, they loaded us up within about 4 hours (including loading an electric car onto a hauling dolly). Driving through a storm-storm that dumped 3-12" across northern NM and AZ, they arrived the next day with everything safe and sound. I've moved at least a dozen times and have never had such great turn-key service!"

"The move was professionally done. Members of the moving team were pleasant and informative. They carefully assessed the best way to get the piano in my house. Unfortunately, an accident occurred when moving the piano out of the seller's house, leaving some gashes in the wood along the front of the piano. I was not there and the seller did not see what happened, so have no idea why the damage occurred. The company was most gracious in giving me a reduced moving fee for the damage. This should help in covering costs to try to hide the wood damage."

Moving questions, answered by experts

Delaying moving in Taos can lead to challenges like impassable roads during winter storms, frozen pipes in vacant homes, and increased risk of wildlife entering empty properties. Adobe structures may deteriorate faster without regular care, and security becomes a concern. Limited moving services during peak tourist seasons or winter can also make scheduling difficult, so timely moves help avoid these local risks.

Helpful?

Moving in Taos often involves unique maintenance tasks, especially for rural or adobe homes. Before moving, check and service septic systems, test well water, and inspect propane tanks. Weatherproof adobe or stucco exteriors and ensure flat roofs are leak-free. After moving, adjust HVAC for altitude, winterize irrigation, and clean chimneys, as Taos’s climate and elevation can impact home systems year-round.

Helpful?

In Taos, it’s best to schedule moving projects before late fall to avoid snow and icy roads, which can quickly make rural routes hazardous. If your new home requires utility hookups, septic inspections, or driveway grading, address these early. Moves can sometimes wait if you’re relocating within established neighborhoods during mild spring or fall, but always consider Taos’s unpredictable weather and narrow historic streets.

Helpful?

Most local moving projects in Taos take one to two days with professional movers, but rural or hard-to-access properties may require extra time due to steep driveways or narrow roads. Long-distance moves into Taos from other cities typically take three to five days, while cross-country moves can extend up to ten days, especially if weather or seasonal tourist traffic causes delays.

Helpful?

The condition of your Taos property directly impacts moving logistics. Older adobe homes may need structural checks before moving heavy items, and narrow historic doorways often require furniture disassembly. Steep or unpaved driveways can limit truck access, while identifying well and septic locations prevents accidental damage. In historic districts, moving truck size and timing may be restricted, so careful planning is essential for a smooth move.
