"Wow! What a great company! From quoting to service delivery this was an exceptional experience. Quoting through messages (my preference), great response time and very clear pricing. They showed up same day, including Maurice, worked through everything I asked for, gave advice, excellent service and offered to setup return visits to keep everything running smooth. The team was very considerate of my home, wore protective shoe covers and cleaned up after themselves. Very impressed and will happily recommend them to anyone who needs some HVAC or plumbing service. They are truly Pros!"

"Jason was wonderful. He resoved my problem and took the time to educate me about my heating and air conditioning. I'm going to have him come back to work on my airconditioner/water tank this summer. I would recommend him highly!"

"I was very pleased with Marco Beltran and NM Air - he did exactly what he said he would do, when he would do it and for the price he quoted, which was very reasonable. He also did a great job of keeping in touch with us - thanks to Angie's list for recommending him. If you have need of HVAC work, I suggest you contact NM Air."

"Jim with North Alabama Technical Services removed some items from my computer so that I could send emails and attend to items I needed to address that day. As planned, the next day he thoroughly cleaned my computer, he also made helpful suggestions while working on my computer. I would call him again if needed and I thought the fee was reasonable."

"LC showed up as promised. Worked efficiently and were careful to explain exactly what was being performed. Louis, the owner, personally explained everything, was careful to wear a masks while in the house, a very good communicator, outgoing, friendly but professional. Very pleased with the work that he performed. One thing i really liked is that he did not promise to be the cheapest but his prices are reasonable."

"The response was amazing. I live on a forest service road miles from the nearest town. I received a call back very shortly after making my request and my furnace was working within four hours. When you live at 8000 feet in the mountains this type of response as I said is truly amazing. I definitely will recommend your services in the future."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

The DOE is phasing out AC units with SEER ratings that fall below 14 or 15. The exact minimum rating depends on your region. In the northern United States, new ACs must have a minimum SEER rating of 14, though you can still buy and install older systems as long as they were compliant when they were manufactured. In the southern and southwestern United States, you cannot buy or install older air conditioners with lower SEER ratings. The minimum rating is between 14.5 and 15, depending on the power of the unit.

If you’re shopping around for a rooftop AC unit, you may hear them referred to as “package units.” That’s because rooftop AC systems are all-in-one heating and cooling units that connect directly to your home’s ductwork. If your AC repair pro references a package unit, they are referring to the system on your roof.

The size window AC you need depends on the BTU and the size of the room you’re cooling. For a room with 8-foot ceilings, look for about 20 BTU per square foot of the room. For example, a 12-by-12-foot room should have an air conditioner with 2,880 BTU. You can buy something slightly more powerful, but don’t overshoot the BTU for a small room, or you’ll waste energy and have higher bills.

You need to know the square footage of your home first. Multiply that number by 20, which will get you the BTUs (British Thermal Units) needed to cool your home efficiently. Homes up to 1,000 square feet usually need a 1.5-ton unit; homes 1,000 to 1,200 square feet usually need a 1.75-ton unit, and homes 1,200 to 1,400 square feet usually need a 1.9-ton unit. Talk to a local pro for more specific advice on your home.

You should flush your AC drain line once every three months to keep it clear of debris and buildup. Keeping your AC drain line clean prevents clogs, backups, mold growth, and extra wear on your AC unit. If you live in a humid area or have several furry pets, up your cleaning schedule to once a month.
