"We needed someone to install tile around the bathtub at an apartment unit we own. Joey at 2 Daughters Handyman came to the rescue. He quoted us a fair price based on what we could see. However, once he started the work other complications were discovered such as mold behind the existing wall. Joey and his crew were able to take care of each issue and charged us a fair amount for the extra work performed. We were very impressed with his willingness to get the job done in a timely manner. He even went to two or three places on his own to find the tile we wanted. We will definitely use 2 Daughters again and would recommend them to anyone needing his services.

Mold Testing and Remediation questions, answered by experts

The most common reason for a smelly dishwasher is a dirty dishwasher filter. The filter is responsible for catching food while your machine is running to prevent clogs. Over time, that filter gets more and more filled with food particles. Cleaning your dishwasher filter monthly can keep the smell at bay.

White mold is generally considered less harmful than black mold, which can be more toxic due to the mycotoxins it produces. However, white mold can still be harmful, particularly for individuals with mold allergies, asthma, or other respiratory conditions. Exposure can cause symptoms like nasal stuffiness, throat irritation, coughing, or skin irritation, and it can exacerbate existing health issues. Because any type of mold can pose health risks, all mold infestations should be treated seriously. Prompt remediation is necessary, and you should take proper precautions, such as wearing protective gear and using appropriate cleaning agents, when dealing with it.

Black mold and wood rot are both types of fungi that thrive in damp areas, but they are distinct issues with different consequences. Wood rot specifically refers to the decay of wood caused by fungi, which compromises the wood's structural integrity. Black mold, on the other hand, is a fungus that grows on the surface of materials, including both rotting and non-rotting wood. The primary difference is their impact: wood rot affects the wood's structure, while toxic black mold is a health hazard. Inhaling black mold spores can cause severe respiratory issues, whereas wood rot spores are generally not harmful to people. Because mold can grow on rotting wood, the two issues can be interconnected, but they are not the same.

If you’re wondering which is more toxic, laminate vs.vinyl flooring, you might be surprised to learn that both can include toxic chemicals. Depending on the specific brand and the manufacturing process, both are likely made from synthetic materials that can emit volatile organic compounds, or VOCs, into the air. However, since laminate has a wood core, it is more sustainable and less polluting than vinyl, which is entirely synthetic and almost always emits more VOCs than laminate flooring. If you’re concerned about indoor air quality, choose a low-chemical flooring manufacturer or, better yet, choose flooring that doesn’t off-gas VOCs.

Mold can begin to grow in as little as 12 to 24 hours, especially if the room is warm, so drying the area is the first thing you should do after water damage. Because mold and mildew can cause a range of health issues, make sure you clean up any water damage as soon as possible and run blower fans and dehumidifiers for 24 to 72 hours to dry out the room and reduce the risk of mold growth.
