"The service went very well.  I called and asked if a plumber could come and change our expansion tank off of our hot water heater and was told that the plumber would be there between 1 and 3.  About 15 minutes before 1, the plumber called and asked if he could come by.
The service at the house went well and he used buckets and towels to make sure he didn't spill water everywhere.  The water that did drip on our garage floor was cleaned up before he left.
They accept credit cards and are very professional, I'd use them again!

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

In Portales, chalky white stains around fixtures indicate mineral buildup from the Ogallala Aquifer rather than an active leak. Check your evaporative cooler during the summer, as condensate overflow mimics indoor pipe leaks. Additionally, foundation movement from local caliche soil causes cracks and moisture issues that look exactly like plumbing failures. Hire a structural expert to inspect your foundation before scheduling plumbing repairs.

Helpful?

The semi-arid climate in Portales brings sudden, severe winter freezes that damage pipes inside uninsulated exterior walls. Between July and September, intense monsoon rains saturate the ground, causing the caliche soil to expand. This ground movement stresses buried water lines and cracks older cast iron sewer pipes. Furthermore, heavy dust storms accelerate wear on outdoor plumbing components, destroying seals on hose bibs and evaporative cooler connections.

Helpful?

Watch for mismatched pipe materials or compression fittings, which indicate improper DIY repairs for hard water damage. In older New Mexico homes, rust-colored water and reduced pressure mean corroded galvanized pipes require immediate replacement. Slow drains throughout your entire house point to a patched, failing main sewer line. Finally, rumbling sounds from your water heater mean heavy sediment buildup has ruined the unit, requiring a full replacement.

Helpful?

Identify whether your property connects to the municipal water and sewer systems or relies on a private well and septic tank. You must also determine the construction era of your home to identify the existing pipe materials. Finally, check the depth of the caliche soil on your specific Portales lot, as shallow hardpan significantly increases the difficulty and effort required for any underground plumbing excavation.

Helpful?

Start by locating your main water shutoff at the street meter, keeping it clear of hard caliche soil. To restore water pressure, unscrew and soak your faucet aerators to remove heavy mineral deposits. During a hard NM freeze, open cabinet doors on exterior walls and allow your faucets to drip. If you rely on a septic system, restrict your water usage to prevent overloading the drain field until a professional arrives.
