"Title: Exceptional, trustworthy plumbing — highly recommended Galactic Mechanical & Plumbing exceeded every expectation. After a frustrating runaround with other companies, Jordan drove up from Albuquerque to Santa Fe, waived the trip charge, and quickly diagnosed that I only needed a faucet fixture (not a full sink). He went to Home Depot, installed the new fixture, fixed a few other small issues, and left everything working — all billed fairly for one hour of labor. Jordan was professional, efficient, and honest; Megan in the office was courteous and helpful. As a longtime local with two homes, I’m already planning to use Galactic as my go-to plumber. Highly recommend them for reliable, respectful, and skilled service. Thank you, Jordan."

"Jason was wonderful. He resoved my problem and took the time to educate me about my heating and air conditioning. I'm going to have him come back to work on my airconditioner/water tank this summer. I would recommend him highly!"

"I cannot praise this business highly enough! My swamp cooler died on me, so I called PHC on Friday, they had a technician out at my house to look at my system and give me a free estimate by the following Monday. I was able to order the swamp cooler I wanted, and have it installed by the end of the week. It was very affordable, and everyone I talked to throughout this process was pleasant and professional, and they took the time to answer any questions I had. I will be going to PHC Systems for all of my heating and cooling needs in the future."

"Louis was excellent. He responded right away to my Angie's list request and came up to Santa Fe to give a quote the next day. Louis quoted us well below our previous quotes and we are very happy with the heating system he put in. While he was here he also cleaned up an open vent that was left by a previous contractor. I would highly recommend LC Heating and Cooling."

"You will not find a better deal than these guys. They installed in my home two new "split" systems, upstairs and downstairs, both with heat and air conditioning. The job included removing old swamp coolers from the roof and adding all the lines to the new side-of-house compressors. The first couple estimates I got from other companies ranged from $16,500 to over $31,000 (!), so I decided to keep looking. Watch out: many of the "big" companies who you will find first with a web search (Signature, Daniels, Wagner, etc) gave estimates more than TWICE those I got from several of the smaller companies (like HVAC Logistics and TruAir). The online calculator at [*** Link removed ***] (best $40 purchase ever!) helped me to understand what a reasonable bid should be. And although I did get a handful of competitive bids (AC&R was one), Mark Mefford at HVAC Logistics answered all my questions and easily out-bid the others. While HVAC Logistics is a fairly new company, Mark and John have been doing this stuff for lots of years. Yes, I googled them up and down, checked their state and city licensing, etc, their price was so good that I was actually worried. But in the end I was *very* happy with the job they did. Even with a hiccup (the compressor-control-line got sliced and they had to rerun the wire), Mark kept me posted on the progress and the job was completed in just a few days. I especially appreciated the excellent cleanup job, which included removing piping from the roof, replacing drywall, and tying up and covering everything neatly. I would highly recommend that you give HVAC Logistics a chance."

Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Running an air conditioner with mold is not safe because it can spread harmful mold spores throughout your home. Exposure to these spores can trigger various health problems, including respiratory issues, allergies, coughing, wheezing, sneezing, itchy eyes, and a sore throat. It may also aggravate asthma in household members. Continued exposure can increase the risk of more serious illnesses like sinus infections, pneumonia, and bronchitis. If you suspect mold in your air conditioner, you should stop using the system until it has been properly cleaned to avoid health risks and further contamination.

Yes, HVAC zoning is generally considered worth the investment by both experts and homeowners. Zoned systems offer significant benefits in convenience, efficiency, and comfort by allowing you to set different temperatures for various rooms or 'zones' in your house. This ability to heat and cool only the spaces you're using leads to energy savings and lower utility bills. Zoned systems are especially effective in multi-level homes that experience temperature fluctuations, but even smaller homes can benefit from the ability to adjust temperatures more quickly. While the up-front installation cost can be high, many find it's a worthwhile long-term investment, particularly for those who plan to stay in their home for a while.

Yes, mini-split systems are generally less expensive to run than central air conditioners and are significantly more energy-efficient. Because mini-splits do not rely on ductwork, they avoid the energy loss associated with ducted systems, allowing cooled or heated air to reach its destination more efficiently. Additionally, they offer zoned control, meaning you can run units in individual rooms and turn them off in unoccupied areas. This capability can lead to energy savings of about 30% compared to a central air system, resulting in a lower monthly energy bill.

Yes, you can put an AC unit on the roof of your home or commercial building. For proper installation, you’ll need to ensure the roof surface is flat, it’s accessible for maintenance and cleaning, and an AC installation pro agreed that your home is a candidate for package units. Don’t forget to consider the climate in your area, as homes that experience frequent tropical storms or hurricanes may not benefit from this type of system.

The cost of R32 refrigerant is about the same as the cost of R410A refrigerant, the most widely available type of refrigerant today. However, R32 systems use about 20% less refrigerant than R410A systems, making the refrigerant less expensive overall.
