Small jobs welcome

"These people did an excellent job of cutting back the trees we hired them to do. They took them from 20 to 25 feet down to 6 feet. They not only did the cutting, they also trimmed them to make them well groomed. They cleaned up all of the mess when done. They left nothing of the trash that was created by the job. I highly recommend this company to anyone and we are definitely going to use them again for our yard needs."

"I had Desert Mountain remove 3 large pine trees and trim a half dozen palm trees from my home in west EP. They were quick, respectful and had quality equipment. Prices were fair."

"The people were very nice. They arrived on time as they said. They got out and they did everything I asked them to do. But I have a big oak tree out in the front yard and I wanted it just kind of cut back a little bit and some things away from the house. That all went really well. When the main man and he told me his name but I don't remember his name, thought out to shake my hand at the beginning, I could smell alcohol in his breath, number one. Then after he came in, he knocked on the door and asked me to come out, they wanted to show me something on my big oak tree. Of course the big oak tree had two big limbs coming out of the bottom. What he showed me was the one that came up and went out over the street. He said this is going to break any minutes. You can see right here where it has a crack in it. The crack goes all the way up here. It scared me to death because number one, if it fell on anybody then it's my fault and all this stuff. I said, what can you do about it? I can't do it right now. I have a $400 deal on Angie's List go and take that and then we'll be here August 1st. I said, okay I'll do that. He left and then I got to thinking, well it can't be too bad, if he can't do it then he's going to take me back in August 1st. The other thing the guy told me that he was an arborist. He didn't tell me he was certified but he was an arborist so he knew what he was talking about. I called three other people, two people came out, each of them gave me, look, there's nothing wrong with this tree. Oak trees heal themselves. See, this has already healed on all these places, it's not going to fall down. It does need to be trimmed up a little bit more but it is certainly not going to fall anywhere. The guy was going to charge me $400 and he would have come and cut that limb off. It's a big one. It wold have been half of a tree. Everything was fine, it's just what he wanted to do."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

In Las Cruces, tree trimming for a single, mature tree typically takes half a day, while removing larger or multiple trees can extend to a full day or longer. Project timelines may be affected by hard caliche soil, narrow property access, or unexpected weather. If permits are needed or protected species are involved, the timeline may be extended to ensure compliance with local regulations.

Helpful?

In Las Cruces, it’s important to watch for brittle branches, peeling bark, or sudden leaf drop—especially after high winds or intense sun. Schedule tree trimming in early spring to encourage healthy growth, after monsoon storms to address storm damage, or in fall before dormancy. If you notice roots surfacing or branches interfering with structures, it’s time to consult a tree service professional.

Helpful?

When planning tree service in Las Cruces, consider the region’s frequent windstorms, intense sunlight, and alkaline soil, which can all impact tree health and removal. Water restrictions may limit irrigation, so drought-resistant species are preferable. Homeowners should also review HOA landscaping rules, as well as seasonal demand for tree service professionals, to ensure timely scheduling and compliance with neighborhood guidelines.

Helpful?

In Las Cruces, homeowners often prune trees during peak heat, which can stress them, or cut branches too close to the trunk, leading to decay. Overwatering, especially in clay-heavy soil, is another common issue. Attempting tree removal near power lines without proper equipment is risky. Failing to check for local permit requirements or protected species can also result in project delays or penalties.

Helpful?

For tree care in Las Cruces, keep bypass pruners, a sturdy pruning saw, and a pole saw for higher branches. Protective gear like gloves, safety glasses, and a hard hat is essential. A deep-root watering wand helps trees cope with drought, while organic mulch retains soil moisture. For young trees, tree ties and shade cloth are helpful, especially during high heat or windy conditions.
