"Josh and his crew did an excellent job removing a big dead tree in my front yard. They chopped the tree down and cleaned up everything down to the last twig. They even left me with wood for the fireplace. I would highly recommend Battle Castle for any landscaping job!!"

"The BEST, by far, of any tree service in Las Cruces. They removed a 95 year old Italian Stone Pine that was apx 100 ft tall with no damage to surrounding buildings or landscape. Unbelievable ability! Perfect cleanup. Wonderful crew! Santiago knows his profession and hires the best."

"Once again Mr. Gonzales's crew did a magnificent job. They pruned the trees and crepe myrtle and removed all stray leaves on the branches, shaped all the shrubs and bushes, removed all debris, redestributed the gravel and even cleaned the weeds out of the driveway. My yard now looks manicured. They always do an excellent job. Thank you Mr. Gonzales!"

"The people were very nice. They arrived on time as they said. They got out and they did everything I asked them to do. But I have a big oak tree out in the front yard and I wanted it just kind of cut back a little bit and some things away from the house. That all went really well. When the main man and he told me his name but I don't remember his name, thought out to shake my hand at the beginning, I could smell alcohol in his breath, number one. Then after he came in, he knocked on the door and asked me to come out, they wanted to show me something on my big oak tree. Of course the big oak tree had two big limbs coming out of the bottom. What he showed me was the one that came up and went out over the street. He said this is going to break any minutes. You can see right here where it has a crack in it. The crack goes all the way up here. It scared me to death because number one, if it fell on anybody then it's my fault and all this stuff. I said, what can you do about it? I can't do it right now. I have a $400 deal on Angie's List go and take that and then we'll be here August 1st. I said, okay I'll do that. He left and then I got to thinking, well it can't be too bad, if he can't do it then he's going to take me back in August 1st. The other thing the guy told me that he was an arborist. He didn't tell me he was certified but he was an arborist so he knew what he was talking about. I called three other people, two people came out, each of them gave me, look, there's nothing wrong with this tree. Oak trees heal themselves. See, this has already healed on all these places, it's not going to fall down. It does need to be trimmed up a little bit more but it is certainly not going to fall anywhere. The guy was going to charge me $400 and he would have come and cut that limb off. It's a big one. It wold have been half of a tree. Everything was fine, it's just what he wanted to do."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Early signs that a tree is struggling include premature leaf shedding and lesions or other strange markings. Peeling bark, dead or rotten branches on the ground, and a conspicuous lack of leaves can all be signs that a tree has started to die. By the time a tree starts leaning, it’s usually too far gone to save.

Bleach can potentially kill some types of delicate ornamental trees, but for the most part, it will only kill the foliage it comes in contact with. Applying bleach is not an effective method of killing a tree. A better option is to use an herbicide, which is a chemical compound designed to effectively kill a tree.

Yes, you can hire professionals to move a tree. Arborists and tree transplanting companies specialize in this type of work and use equipment like hydraulic tree spades to safely extract and relocate trees with their root balls intact. Since tree moving is a complex process, especially for larger trees, it’s best left to experts who understand how to protect the tree’s health and ensure the safety of everyone involved.

Whether tree roots will continue to grow after a tree has been cut down depends on the species. Some tree roots will eventually die because they can no longer get nutrients through photosynthesis. However, other species that reproduce through root sprouts can continue to grow and produce new sprouts for seven years or more. For example, the roots of elms, ficus, and willows tend to regrow aggressively, while the roots of pines, oaks, and maples will typically die. To determine if a root system is still active, look for new sprouts on the old trunk, stump, or any exposed roots.

Deciduous shade trees (the type of trees whose leaves fall off in autumn) need to be pruned in late winter—between February and March. That’s because it’s easier to find and remove sick or dead branches when no leaves are present. And wounds close and heal faster in colder temperatures so pruning them at this time also makes them less prone to infection.
