"My cinderblock wall was built in the 1960's. The mortar between the brick joints had loosened and a tree root pressing against the brick below grade caused the wall to crack from top to bottom between my yard and the neighbors yard. Cinco Mosqueteros did a great job repairing the wall, leaving it in much better shape than when it was originally built. Many thanks!"

"Joram Melendez and his co-worker (his brother) repaired my driveway which was a challenge to negotiate, especially on my Harley-Davidson. There was a precipitous drop at the end of my driveway which my bike--and even my car--would bottom out on. Bedrock Construction did the job on time, on budget, and finished it beautifully. I am more than pleased with the result. I would recommend them to anyone."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Altering exterior walls directly impacts your home's structural integrity, especially in older adobe or block houses. Changing ground grading during masonry work redirects heavy monsoon rainwater toward your plumbing cleanouts, HVAC pads, and foundation. Always contact NM 811 before digging to locate underground utility lines. Inspect evaporative cooler connections and stucco barriers, as wall modifications easily disturb these surrounding systems.

Helpful?

Small repairs take one to three days, while structural masonry work takes two to six weeks. High winds, winter freezes, and breaking through hard caliche soil extend these timelines. Alamogordo weather conditions require extended misting schedules to prevent concrete from drying too quickly. Factor in extra days for these necessary curing processes and local permit approvals to ensure your project finishes strong.

Helpful?

Keep a garden hose with a misting attachment ready to properly cure concrete during any masonry work. Stock high-strength Type S mortar and UV-rated sealants to withstand intense desert sun. You need N95 masks and safety goggles to protect your lungs and eyes from airborne particulates. Keep a heavy-duty chisel available to break through the tough caliche soil found throughout NM.

Helpful?

Keep children and pets away from active masonry work to protect them from severe burn risks caused by heat-absorbing concrete in Alamogordo. Set up secure fencing around the site to block access. Inspect the disturbed ground for displaced scorpions and black widows before starting. Require everyone to wear masks to prevent breathing in alkaline caliche dust and airborne particulates common throughout NM.

Helpful?

Look for chalky white salt deposits on brick or block, which indicate failed waterproofing. Uneven lifting in patios points to improper caliche excavation during previous masonry work. Crumbling mortar joints on south-facing walls reveal severe sun damage. Check interior walls for water stains after monsoon rains, and inspect stucco for bubbling and spider-web cracking caused by extreme temperature swings in Alamogordo.
