"Dave did a great job installing my new laminate kitchen countertops. He went out of his way to do the little things so the job would come out just right. The countertops are beautiful and look like they cost a lot more then they actually did. I would highly recommend Dave and his company."

"I recently collaborated with AVSTEP for various home improvement projects, including roof repair, patio door replacement, electrical work, ceiling recess light installment, new flooring, curtain rack installation, water pipe replacement and ceiling replacement. I am extremely pleased with their work. AVSTEP's expertise in roof repair was evident as they efficiently addressed and explained the issues, providing me with confidence throughout the process. The patio door replacement was seamlessly executed, enhancing both aesthetics and functionality. Their electrical work adhered to the highest safety standards, and the installation of recessed lights showcased their modern design sensibility. The new flooring, curtain rack, and ceiling replacement projects were executed with precision, adding to the overall appeal of my home. AVSTEP's attention to detail, professionalism, and commitment to quality make them my preferred contractor for future projects. "Danny and his team are the best. His prices are reasonable. He is very honest. He starts his jobs very early, he explains the work that will be done, he is very particular and detail oriented. He makes sure that the job is done correctly. Danny has extensive knowledge about homes. He replaced a leaking pipe that lead to the roof in my attic, installed plywood in my attic for storage, repaired a leak in my roof, replaced shingles on the roof, installed ceiling storage racks and shelving in my garage and he shows you different aspects of the job as he is working on it. . Everything was done perfectly and he cleaned up when he was finished. There is nothing that he cannot do. And most of all, he is a very nice and courteous person. I will be contacting him again for additional projects."

"Couldn't be happier with the service!!!! When we moved into our new home we realized that one section of granite countertop had several cracks. Dan got back to us quickly and offered us several options, from repair to replace. Pricing was fair and reasonable. He was honest and never pushy, took his time with us and explained everything in detail. We opted to replace and SO GLAD we did. First off, he matched the granite so perfectly to the sections that weren't replaced, that you can't tell they aren't from the same slab! When he removed the damaged counter, we could see all the gaps that the original installer left, which likely contributed to all the cracks because large sections had nothing supporting it underneath. Also, there was TONS of black mold growing around the edges of the sink! Thankfully we also opted to have him replace the sink (which I now LOVE). Dan and his crew leveled, shimmed and sealed the new counter and sink in meticulously! He polished and sealed the old remaining sections so that now when people come visit they think we replaced all the counters and have all said how beautiful it looks. Another huge plus is that they worked really clean. I was anticipating a mess but they did their best to keep it keep everything clean, even when they had to trim some backsplash tiles to get the counter in more level and securely. My mother needs new counters and when she's ready we will be calling Dan at Take Us for Granite! Excellent service!!!!!!"

"Great company! This is my first time hiring them. Martin enlarged the cutout in my granite countertop. The cuts are straight and within the 3 mm thresholds in the spec. They cleaned up incredibly! A much better price than the competitors. Thank you for doing a great job!"

Countertops and Backsplashes questions, answered by experts

Countertops typically hang over base cabinets by 1.5 inches. This slight overhang protects cabinet faces from spills and provides a finished look. The overhang may extend 12 inches or more for kitchen islands or breakfast bars to allow for seating and comfortable eating.

Since knowing how to install countertops correctly requires in-depth knowledge and understanding of the topic, we recommend hiring a professional countertops installer near you to work on this project. Kitchen countertops are a high-visibility investment, meaning mistakes made during DIY installation will be easy to spot, may cause damage, and potentially require re-purchasing materials. Professional countertop installers have the skills, tools, and experience to place your new kitchen feature safely and correctly.

Deciding between marble and granite for kitchen countertops depends on your personal priorities, budget, and style. Both materials have similar costs for material and installation.

Marble offers a luxurious aesthetic and timeless beauty, but it is more expensive and requires more maintenance. It is susceptible to staining and etching from acidic substances like coffee, wine, or tomato sauce if spills are not cleaned up quickly.

Granite is highly durable, heat-resistant, and easier to maintain, making it a practical choice for busy kitchens.

Both materials should be sealed to protect against damage, but they can still be vulnerable to stains if spills are left on the surface for too long.

Laminate countertops can last between 10 and 30 years, though a more common estimate is 10 to 15 years. The exact lifespan depends heavily on usage and how well they are maintained. Because they are a budget-friendly option, they are more prone to scorching and scratches than other materials. You can extend their lifespan with daily maintenance using a soft cleaner and regular sealing.

The lifespan of painted countertops depends on the products used and how well they are maintained. Generally, they can last for a couple of years before needing a fresh coat. To maximize their longevity, it is vital to apply a durable sealer, such as a resin or water-based acrylic topcoat, over the paint. After applying the sealer, allow it to cure for the full recommended time, which can range from seven to ten days, to ensure a fully protected surface.
