When you have mold, making the correct decisions right away is critical. Whether it is mold in your home, school, place of work, or apartment there are many factors to consider. Are you going to be involved in a mold lawsuit? Will you be seeking property damages? Is anyone sick from mold exposure? Will you be seeking medical damages? Will you need expert witnesses? If so, what kind? Do you just want to test to be sure your environment is safe? Do you need post mold remediation testing to ensure a good job was done? These and other factors are questions which need to be answered before any environmental testing starts. It is important to know what your goals are and why your testing. Different goals require different environmental tests, i.e. medical damages and property damages require different environmental tests to prove your case in court. Tests that a common, or inexperienced, mold inspector would not typically use or know to use.

"They did a prompt professional job. I received the report in about 7 days. Mold was found in the air due to high humidity in the air. All of this seemed OK but then I was forwarded to the Biocide company that tried to get me to buy a DIY mold remediation kit. There a time pressure to buy the kit for the best price at $2400. They said the nature of the mold would require a hazardous work fee from any remediation company that would cost from $12,000 - 18,000. This is when I started questioning the service I received. My pulmonologist also looked at the test results & said the mold levels did not seem too bad. Also, the humidity readings on my house thermostat did not read the high level that the report stated. So, I do not know if there was any value with the service & I am not sure if I would recommend them. The only way to really find out would be to call in another testing company but I did not want to spend another $660. So, I had the remediation work done for $1900 & was satisfied."

Hoarding and Biohazard Remediation Company. Women-owned company. Caring and Compassionate. Healthcare Background. OSHA Compliant

"Here is an excerpt from the text message I sent the owner, Kelly, after she refused to send back someone to finish removing the rodent droppings (essentially in plain sight) that her service person missed the day before, after charging me $300 for a task I could have done myself (but preferred to hire an ‘expert’ to take care of). “There is no excuse or justification for shoddy workmanship. Whether or not you made money (she claimed she lost money and accused me of being intentionally deceptive about the size of the area involved...really?) is irrelevant to the poor quality of service you provided. If there was an issue with the scope of work it should have been raised yesterday. And, obviously, if I had paid you $1000 for the work, it would still have been shoddy. Your tech (if that’s what you jokingly call him) was twice careless and inept. While he was here I caught some but not all of what he missed...all within plain sight. That wasn’t my job to do; it was his/your responsibility to be thorough.” I told Kelly on the phone on the day after service: “Today, while inspecting the same general area, I made just a little effort to look into a corner a couple feet away, and there was another pile of droppings your service person missed.” As mentioned above, Kelly refused to complete the job. Now it will cost me another $100 for a shop vac and HEPA filter. Don’t waste your money on this company."

Biohazard Remediation questions, answered by experts

Small appliance repair costs around $150 on average, but you could pay between $50 and $400 for your repair, depending on the type of appliance, the brand, availability of the replacement parts, and the extent of the damage. Here are some average repair costs based on the type of small appliance:

  • Microwave: $250

  • Toaster: $150

  • Blender: $150

  • Food processor: $150

  • Garbage disposal: $175

  • Coffee maker: $100

  • Range hood: $200

  • Countertop ice maker: $125

  • Wine fridge: $225

Use rugs in high-traffic areas, immediately clean up spills, and do regular dust mopping.

If your old washer and dryer are still in working condition and you have space for an additional hook-up, you may be able to use them for things you don’t want in your household laundry, like heavily soiled work clothes. If the appliances no longer work, some parts may be salvageable for scrap—contact a scrap collector to see if they’ll take them.

Regular cleaning, using appropriate products, and avoiding harsh chemicals help maintain the appearance of refinished appliances.

Removing the original paint or stain before refinishing is a good idea, as it ensures the new finish bonds strongly to the wood. If you skip the stripping or sanding step, the new finish may peel or flake away from the railing easily. Using a wood stripper will completely remove the old stain or paint while sanding will help to prime the surface.
