"After calling StructuralMD and confirming that this service was what we needed, an appointment was quickly set up and George (Chief Engineer) showed up on time. He closely inspected the area in question and provided a great deal of detail regarding his findings. George answered every question we had and spent whatever time required to provide additional guidance, suggestions and tips. His inspection confirmed that there were no structural issues, and helped us prepare to hire a contractor to complete the (non-structural) work that we originally sought. He also urged us to contact him again to ask any other questions that might have. A professional outfit with excellent customer service!"
"Very professional experience with Mina, the engineer who thoroughly explained his findings and suggested remedies. He confirmed house settlement suspicions and causes in a lengthy, detailed report complete with photos. I trust Kiro Engineering and would highly recommend them for structural engineering consultation and peace of mind."
"Ed is very knowledgeable and thorough in his inspection. He is transparent and unbiased with his evaluations and shared lot of information which otherwise we will not know. We highly recommend him for any structural consultation"

"Home Advisor connected me to Structural Workshop LLC for a last minute project on a 203K loan application. Ms. Pawloski contacted me in a matter of seconds, sent a structural engineer at the property to evaluate a crack in the foundation, the same day, and sent the report for the visit the next day. I cannot recommend them enough. E-mail communication was fast and effective. I will request their services in the future. This is a company that knows what "time sensitive" means and will give you great quality work. Tatiana Sava"
"Since I Moved to New York me and my husband we find that it will be a big problem for as to find a good contractor that can help us to get done the construction and remodeling at our new house that we bought in woodlands .. The first problem was that houston doesnt have any specific requirements, certification or license for contractors what means is it a big problem to track them .. The second problem we had that we did t have any friend for recommendations... We found a couple of contractor on home daviser and yelp and we decided to give a try... We received a couple of bids form them and we decided to go with the one that gave us the best bid ...,,Houston Renovation & Remodeling,, But after they begin the work we find out that this company has very poor experience in construction and the worst think was that they begin to overcharge us saying that a lot of thinks waren t indicated in the bid.. Yes we where very upset and we decided to not work with that company.. We called again the company's that we received the bids and we asked them to rebid the job and we asked them to specify all the details that will be included and witch not.. After we received the new Bids Structurelne Construction Has the most accurate bid they also specify all the details even the garbage removal... My husband sad that he will go with Structure Construction and I was agree with.. It took approximately 2 month for them to finish the Remodeling In our 4 bedroom House but we are very satisfied with the results .. They helped us to update the old 2 Bath, replacing all ceramic tiles and bathtubs.. We did replaced all flooring in the house we did update our old kitchen and closets... and walls Restoration, new moldings and painting. Now all looks great and we are happy with the changes we did in the house.. Hope i will call them soon for some exterior work and I am expecting to receive a good quote .. Thanks for all .."

"We had known about this problem for some time and had also had a structural engineer evaluate our situation. We may be putting our house up for sale soon and decided it was finally time to get the wall fixed. Armed with my own research and the engineers evaluation, we searched for a contractor to perform the work we knew we needed to have done. Upon contacting Foundation Experts, Larry got back to me very quickly and we set up an appointment for him to inspect the wall. He was VERY thorough in explaining what needed to be done to stabilize the wall to prevent any further movement/damage. He said we should have the wall "pinned". He quoted us $4000 to do the whole job (10 pins along a roughly 25ft. long wall). They also designed the system so that the re-bar would pass through the top course of block and attach to the house sill plate above the wall to help lock it in place. The price was on par with most other estimates (slightly cheaper actually), but we decided to go with Foundation Experts mostly because they were very thorough with their evaluation, were honest (I was armed with a lot of info about our situation and felt very confident that what he proposed to do was exactly what needed to be done) and they did not pressure us at all. I also really liked the fact that they routinely work with engineers and felt that they had a better grasp on executing the work over other contractors we contacted. They also will work with the township if permits are needed. We scheduled for the work to start the following week. Their team took about 2 days to do the work. They were very professional and did not make a mess at all. They put plastic up to prevent concrete dust from getting everywhere in the basement and cleaned up thoroughly. Larry was present during the bulk of the work and made sure that everything went smoothly. They even worked with us on the payment method. He made it very clear if we have any issues/concerns or questions to call them anytime. He also stressed that if we sell the house and potential buyers have any questions/concerns to contact him and they will work with us as best they can. The wall is now fixed and my wife and I feel better knowing that our wall won't come crashing down during then next heavy rain! We also feel better knowing that we won't have to worry about foundation issues coming up if/when we sell our house. All in all, it was a great experience! "
Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts
Yes, you can build over a stump if the roots are no longer alive. Living roots will continue to grow and may damage your new construction over time. Similarly, you should also remove rotting stumps because they may continue to attract pests and even cause new structures (especially those made from wood) to decompose as well.
Yes, you can put a doorway in a structural wall; in fact, most exterior doors are set into structural walls. The project is a little more challenging than installing a door in a non-load-bearing wall because you need a structural engineer to assess the wall and make sure it’s safe to create a wall opening. Your engineer’s report will include instructions for your contractor on how and where to install additional supports, like steel headers above the door, to distribute the weight above to the wall on either side of the door.
Costs depend on material choices, labor, and the extent of structural modifications.
The easiest way to tell if a wall is load bearing is to check if it’s an exterior wall or if it runs perpendicular to the joists above and below it (or parallel to beams). Exterior walls are almost always load-bearing, and walls that run under beams or parallel to them are also usually load-bearing. There are exceptions to these rules, and walls that don’t fit into these categories can still be load-bearing. If you’re unsure, hire a structural engineer to look at your home to assess whether or not the wall is structural.
Yes, water damage can affect your walls' structural integrity. If the water or moisture sits on the walls for an extended period, it can weaken the drywall, plaster, wood framing, and other materials supporting the wall. That's why it's critical to dry out the area as soon as you notice it.
