"My initial review was somewhat marginal, but now several years later I will say that the reinforcement has been perfect, and they did eventually provide the engineered drawings that were promised shortly after the project completion. Only hitch was with the length of the steel, which they did correct by welding on tabs to each end. Ultimately it was a good job and completed in one day. Would definitely use them again if I needed to reinforce a structure."
"Very professional experience with Mina, the engineer who thoroughly explained his findings and suggested remedies. He confirmed house settlement suspicions and causes in a lengthy, detailed report complete with photos. I trust Kiro Engineering and would highly recommend them for structural engineering consultation and peace of mind."
"Township requires architect plan so decided to go ahead with Joseph. He is very good in understanding the layout of home the moment he steps in. He proved to me that there are hvac lines passing through wall and also suggested me options how to tackle it. I would hire him again for sure."
"Anush and his team were absolutely amazing, and our porch turned out better than we expected thanks to his ideas/recommendations. The attention to detail/pride they take in their work truly stand out and far exceeded our experiences with contractors in the past. One of my favorite parts is how much I genuinely love coming home now. It completely changed the look and feel of the front of our house, and every time I pull into the driveway it makes me happy to see it. I will absolutely be recommending AVSTEP to anyone planning renovations or building a home. We already have several more projects planned for our house in the coming months, and without question we’ll be using Anush and his team again. It’s such a great feeling to know we now have a contractor we genuinely trust and can confidently call whenever we need work done. Even our neighbors have been commenting on how beautiful the front of our house looks and what an incredible job they did. Below are the before and after pictures"
"My project was to build a cafe / bakery in Jersey City. Chris worked with me to thoroughly understand the needs and work through the building code constraints without impacting our goals to maximize the space's utility. He made himself available at different times of the day to work through the details. He was patient in trying to understand and work through JC building department's requests."
"The project was hampered by multiply delays from permits to material delays. Anthony did his best to resolve each issue and move the project along. I would have liked him to be on site more often but his subcontractors were very good.and did an excellent job. At the end of day the garage extension exceeded my expectations, looks like it was part of the original house and I am very satisfied with the work"
"Ed is a really great engineer. His reports are thorough, detailed and precise. He is willing to go the extra mile ensure long term safety. His communication is amazing. Ed is just an overall great engineer and pleasure to work with. I highly recommend Ed Betz"

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts
A structural engineer’s report is almost always worth it, as it can help you avoid buying or overpaying for a home with structural issues. The most important thing the report does for you is provide peace of mind that you won’t have to pay thousands of dollars for structural repairs right after closing on a property.
Costs depend on material choices, labor, and the extent of structural modifications.
Yes, all states require structural engineers to carry the proper license, with specifics determined by each state. You can use Angi’s state licensing tool to confirm that the structural engineer you’re considering holds the required licensing to tackle your job. Hiring an unlicensed structural engineer will not only cause issues with permits but it could also lead to an unsafe building. The cost of a professional, licensed, and experienced engineer is well worth the investment.
A 4-inch-thick concrete slab can support around 4,000 pounds per square foot if a contractor reinforces the slab with rebar, while that same slab without reinforcements will support closer to 1,000 pounds. For the purposes of a patio, 4 inches in thickness without reinforcement should suffice unless you’re installing heavy kitchen equipment or a hot tub on it. In those cases, reinforcing your slab and sticking with 4 inches of thickness should provide plenty of strength.
No, squeaky floors do not always mean there is structural damage. The noise is often caused by friction from issues like loose floorboards, gaps between the subfloor and joists, or loose subflooring. While many squeaks are harmless, persistent or worsening noise could indicate a more severe problem. If you notice other signs of structural damage—such as soft or sagging floors, cracks running from the wall to the ceiling, or horizontal cracks in your foundation—it's best to have a professional inspect your floor to determine the root cause.
