"After calling StructuralMD and confirming that this service was what we needed, an appointment was quickly set up and George (Chief Engineer) showed up on time. He closely inspected the area in question and provided a great deal of detail regarding his findings. George answered every question we had and spent whatever time required to provide additional guidance, suggestions and tips. His inspection confirmed that there were no structural issues, and helped us prepare to hire a contractor to complete the (non-structural) work that we originally sought. He also urged us to contact him again to ask any other questions that might have. A professional outfit with excellent customer service!"

"Home Advisor connected me to Structural Workshop LLC for a last minute project on a 203K loan application. Ms. Pawloski contacted me in a matter of seconds, sent a structural engineer at the property to evaluate a crack in the foundation, the same day, and sent the report for the visit the next day. I cannot recommend them enough. E-mail communication was fast and effective. I will request their services in the future. This is a company that knows what "time sensitive" means and will give you great quality work. Tatiana Sava"
"I have used Structureline few time in the past It all begins with a bathroom Remodeling when I used to live in Jersey City... I Hired them Based on recommendations and good reviews... The story was that at that time 2009 I couldn't find a good Licensed Contractor to get the management board approval in my building, because of the high requirements.. And my sister Gina give me the contact information of Structureline as certified contractor.. After they pass the board they did the bathroom remodeling and I was very happy with their results... After I moved to Brooklyn my husband said that would be nice to hire a contractor to do a extension to the house.. After we received several bids from different contractors even that the price was a little higher we decided to go with Structureline because we already knew their work.. Nicolas advised us to build a second floor instead of the back extension and we thought that is a brilliant idea and went for it... To tell the truth the construction took longer then we expected .....a lot of paperwork, inspections for framing , plumbing we did received a violation because we haven't used the scaffolding properly weather conditions etc... But we know that Nicolas did the best to finished and we do appreciate that... My husband was very happy wen the construction was completed, a lot of closets room, master bathroom, Large windows , big living room and huge living room... I really liked bout their renovations that the walls a straight and smooth like glass, defiantly is recommended to see .... "

Not only was I provided with all the appropriate engineering drawings and calculations but they also stayed with me through the process until the necessary approvals were secured, making sure the township had what they needed. FULL SERVICE OPERATION AT REASONABLE FEES."
"We had known about this problem for some time and had also had a structural engineer evaluate our situation. We may be putting our house up for sale soon and decided it was finally time to get the wall fixed. Armed with my own research and the engineers evaluation, we searched for a contractor to perform the work we knew we needed to have done. Upon contacting Foundation Experts, Larry got back to me very quickly and we set up an appointment for him to inspect the wall. He was VERY thorough in explaining what needed to be done to stabilize the wall to prevent any further movement/damage. He said we should have the wall "pinned". He quoted us $4000 to do the whole job (10 pins along a roughly 25ft. long wall). They also designed the system so that the re-bar would pass through the top course of block and attach to the house sill plate above the wall to help lock it in place. The price was on par with most other estimates (slightly cheaper actually), but we decided to go with Foundation Experts mostly because they were very thorough with their evaluation, were honest (I was armed with a lot of info about our situation and felt very confident that what he proposed to do was exactly what needed to be done) and they did not pressure us at all. I also really liked the fact that they routinely work with engineers and felt that they had a better grasp on executing the work over other contractors we contacted. They also will work with the township if permits are needed. We scheduled for the work to start the following week. Their team took about 2 days to do the work. They were very professional and did not make a mess at all. They put plastic up to prevent concrete dust from getting everywhere in the basement and cleaned up thoroughly. Larry was present during the bulk of the work and made sure that everything went smoothly. They even worked with us on the payment method. He made it very clear if we have any issues/concerns or questions to call them anytime. He also stressed that if we sell the house and potential buyers have any questions/concerns to contact him and they will work with us as best they can. The wall is now fixed and my wife and I feel better knowing that our wall won't come crashing down during then next heavy rain! We also feel better knowing that we won't have to worry about foundation issues coming up if/when we sell our house. All in all, it was a great experience! "
Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts
No, squeaky floors do not always mean there is structural damage. The noise is often caused by friction from issues like loose floorboards, gaps between the subfloor and joists, or loose subflooring. While many squeaks are harmless, persistent or worsening noise could indicate a more severe problem. If you notice other signs of structural damage—such as soft or sagging floors, cracks running from the wall to the ceiling, or horizontal cracks in your foundation—it's best to have a professional inspect your floor to determine the root cause.
Structural engineers are necessary for projects involving alterations to load-bearing structures, foundation work, and compliance with safety standards. This includes home expansions, retaining walls, and significant repairs that impact a property's integrity.
Yes, they offer plans for repairs or reinforcements to address issues.
The best way to determine if ceiling cracks are structural is to hire a ceiling contractor to inspect the cracks and provide a professional opinion. That said, you might be able to make an educated guess based on the size and appearance of the crack. Larger cracks, cracks accompanied by sagging or discoloration, and cracks that travel from the ceiling down the walls are all signs of structural issues.
Building codes for spiral staircases will vary by your location. Most local codes will specify minimum tread width, riser height, handrail requirements, and headroom. These standards help ensure safety and accessibility for all users. Always check local codes before you begin the installation to ensure compliance and avoid costly modifications or fines.
