"Olvin contacted me very soon after I posted my request on Angi. He asked for pictures and quoted me a price. This was a Sunday and by Thursday he was working on the project. He arrived at the specified time and started the work. He covered the floor leading to the powder room with a tarp and started pulling up the old floor. He asked us about how we would like the new tile laid and began to lay the pattern we requested. He keep the work area very clean and was very personable as well as professional. He came back the next morning to grout the tiles. We were so happy with the work performed and would certainly use him again as well as recommend him to anyone who needs tile work done."

"This was the best experience in all ways for the tile grout in our shower. Russ communicated right away once contacted. Chris called soon after and explained the whole process step by step for cleaning, repairing deteriorating grout, clear seal and caulk. Made the appointment over a month in advance and he did not reschedule. Arrived at the agreed time, wore protective shoe covers, brought in his tools/supplies and went right to work. Chris explained again what he was going to do and reviewed the finished job. Also gave recommendations on cleaning and future care. The shower looks great. Chris is very experienced, timely and professional. He had everything he needed to get the job done. I had lost hope of finding a good contractor that you can trust and I wish there were more like this company."

Customers say: Super punctual

"I want to highly recommend Degen Tiles and Tom the owner.

Our project was to replace a linoleum floor in our Kitchen that our Puppy ripped. It?s a small Kitchen. I was thinking of doing it myself, but seeing that the linoleum in the Kitchen was attached to the hallway floor too, I decided that I wanted to do both sections. After seeing Do-it-yourself videos on You Tube, I decided it was too big a job for me as I had to get under the appliances and radiator.

When calling or emailing companies though Angie?s list, Tom was the first to reply, make an appointment and show up at the scheduled time. (First impression was good, I like people who are on time).  After talking with Tom and he gave both my wife and myself a lesson on tiles and laying floors, he provided us a list with local tile companies and a written quote.  We told him that we would shop for tiles and wanted the job done as soon as possible. He told us to get the tiles and call him to discuss a date. He quoted for a 3-day job.

After a day or so, we decided we wanted to do the Dining room too, which already had some old white 12? x 12? tiles. We called Tom and asked about the cost. He responded within the day and quoted the additional charge and an extra day to complete the work.

Based on Tom?s professionalism, reasonable quote and impressive customer relations (Getting back to us when called and answering numerous questions over a three day period), we decided to hire Tom.

He set a date, we cleaned out the furniture and made the room ready. Tom and his helper arrived as scheduled, worked as promised and completed the job on time and at the price quoted.

I don?t think you can ask any more of a contactor than that. They will get our next tile job, which is a redo of our bathroom next year!

Floor Cleaning and Waxing questions, answered by experts

The best solution for mopping floors depends on the type of floor you have, but a good all-around or multi-purpose DIY floor cleaner is 2 cups of warm water, 5 to 10 drops of liquid dish soap, and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice. This is safe to use on tile, laminate, wood, polished concrete, vinyl, and more, as it’s relatively neutral and lacks caustic and abrasive chemicals that could be harmful to children and pets. You can also use a multi-purpose commercial cleaner, but make sure to follow the directions for safety.

You should strip and wax hardwood floors every six months to two years. The actual length of time between stripping and waxing depends on the wear and tear that the floors see. Stripping and waxing floors can help repair hardwood floor damage and give the room a fresh look.

To properly maintain and care for hardwood floors without damaging the finish, establish a regular cleaning routine. Sweep with a broom or microfiber dust mop daily, or vacuum weekly, to remove dirt and debris that can scratch the surface; be sure to clean in tight corners and under furniture. For a deeper clean, use a damp mop with a cleaner specifically designed for hardwood floors, but avoid using harsh chemicals or excessive water, as this can damage the wood. You can further protect your floors by placing mats at entryways to catch dirt and moisture and putting felt pads under furniture legs to prevent scratches. For long-term care, refinish the floors as needed to keep them looking their best.

Yes, you can polish an existing concrete floor—as long as the slab is structurally sound and in good shape. In fact, that’s what makes this type of flooring upgrade so appealing. Polishing works best on bare concrete with minimal surface damage, although you can usually repair cracks and stains before the grinding and buffing begins. Instead of ripping out your existing concrete floor, polishing it can turn it into a high-shine showpiece that’s both practical and sleek.

Both buffing and polishing increase the longevity of your floors by removing scratches and buildup, but they are different processes. Polishing removes the top layer of your floor, removing surface-level scuffs and scratches. Buffing your floor involves filling the scratches and scuffs with a buffing solution. No matter which method you choose, you can rest assured that both techniques will leave your floor looking shiny and new.
