"Fast Estimate , had many estimates from other companies and Waterproofing One was the best price for Us , Joe was very confident and knowledgeable and gave Us good suggestions for our leaking basement, the crew that installed the French drain inside were great, install looks very professional. I figured we’d have a mess to clean up after the install understandably. But wow they did an incredible job cleaning up afterwards. Not a speck, they even spent time cleaning off the driveway and front lawn. We have been through one major rain storm since the install and not a drip of water. So far so good , we are getting an expected 3” in the next 24 hours and it’s a relief to know I don’t have to stress about rain storms anymore!"

"We initially hired a company who specialized in finding the location of the leak by using specialized sound equipment. This company said the leak was in our laundry room under the washing machine. GPS Plumbing sent two technicians to take care of the problem. They used a jack hammer to get through the concrete where the sound company identified as the location of the leak. When GPS Plumbing got through the concrete to the pipes the leak was not at the location identified by the sound company. GPS Plumbing was able to determine the leaking pipe went from the laundry room into the next room which was the kitchen. GPS Plumbing discussed with us our options. We decided our best option was to run a new pipe through the bottom of our kitchen cabinets to the kitchen sink. This option fixed the problem and we no longer had a leaking pipe. We were very pleased with the work GPS Plumbing performed and will call them again and recommend to others."

"I used this company first to install a dehumidifier and then a sump pump. Prices were reasonable and payment plan option available. My basement is now fully waterproof. The excellent customer service is polite and responds in a reasonable time. Awesome company!!!"

"Dan and his team were both efficient and knowledgeable. They installed a french drain sump pump and made repairs to our footings at our residence three years ago and not a drop of water since then! Thats why we recommended them for the work we recently did at our church. The crew installed a complete system with two sumps and pumps in two days! From start to finish they did an outstanding job at competitive prices using quality materials. The clean up was amazing as well! Except for the new concrete, you would never know all of the work that was involved! I highly recommend Dan and the Basement Guruâ s for all of your water infiltration/foundation needs!!! You wont be disappointed!!!"

"Drytech contacted me about my inquiry for a drain system in my driveway. We set up a date and time. The company called the day before â to confirm the time. The representative arrived on time. We discussed the issues w/ my driveway, and my concerns. After discussions he told me that I probably did not need a drain system. While he did not complete any work for based (because of his honesty) I was impressed with his questions, the time he spent with me and how pleasant he was. He left me his card and informed me what issues to look for."

"Dana knew right away that the problem was with the air handler. As it turned out the condensation drip pan had filled up and tripped the over flow switch. PTL for that switch. Dana drained the pan and cleared the drain. All ok now. Thanks for the help. Nice job Dana."

"Just a shoutout to Dylan and his team for their great work in installing my French drain I have a condo in NYC and NYC law prevents workers from doing construction work after 6 pm. My job was much harder due to the concrete flooring, so it took much longer to complete the job than was expected. As 6 pm passed, Dylan was required by the building manager to cease work before the job was completed. Dylan was concerned about finishing the job, so he contacted me early the next morning to make set up an appointment for later in the day to complete the installation. His team worked as fast as they could to complete their assigned work for the day. They arrived at my condo around 2. Dylan and his team completed the work by 5:30 so as not to have the situation that occurred the day before to repeat itself. Thanks again to Dylan and his team for making sure the job was completed to my satisfaction. Nicholas Gaglioti"

Foundation Drain Installation questions, answered by experts

Not all window wells have a formal drain, but they all require a method for water to flow away from the window. Some wells are connected to an interior or exterior drain tile, which is the most effective solution. Others rely on a deep layer of gravel or crushed stone that allows water to filter down into the soil.

However, if a window well lacks a proper drainage system, it can lead to basement seepage, costly water damage, mold growth, and potential foundation damage. This is especially true in areas with heavy rainfall or expansive soil.

If your window well doesn't have a drain or is not draining quickly enough, you have a few options. For gravel-based systems, the stone may have compacted and needs to be improved. For a more robust solution, you can hire a plumber or window installer to connect the well to a drainage system. This can also be a DIY project using a shovel or auger.

The best basement waterproofing method depends on the specific issue causing the water intrusion. For minor problems, simple solutions like installing a properly functioning gutter system to direct runoff away and grading the soil to slope away from your foundation can be effective.

If you have more significant water problems, the solution will need to be more robust:

  • For standing water on the basement floor, a floor drain or a sump pump system may be the best solution.

  • For water pooling around the foundation, installing an exterior French drain can intercept water before it reaches the basement walls.

Other effective waterproofing methods, which can be used depending on your home's specific needs, climate, and soil type, include sealing the interior walls, landscape alteration, installing interior drainage systems, and using a dehumidification system to control moisture levels.

A small sump pump running infrequently uses an average of 10 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity per month. The average cost for electricity is $0.171 per kWh. The size and use frequency affect how much electricity it uses. Sump pumps average one-third to one horsepower (hp) motors. One hp is equal to 745.7 watts. Watts multiplied by the time your pump is running divided by 1,000 equals your average kWh. Multiply kWh by your average cost of electricity. In areas with high rain or a marsh basin, the average cost can be as high as $15-$25 a month.

Your sump pump will discharge water through a discharge line or pipe. The discharge line should be placed at least 10–20 feet from the foundation to avoid any issues.

There are a few possible sump pump drainage locations, including a neighborhood storm drain, into a creek or pond, or underground. Don’t let your sump pump water go into your sewer or septic system. Ideally, your drainage spot should be on a downhill slope that’s at least 10 to 20 feet away from your home’s foundation. Before choosing a location, check your local codes and regulations.
