"When we decided to install new laminate floors, we contacted Angi for recommendations. The first company that came was Makki’s Carpet & Flooring. The owner, Ali Makki was friendly, knowledgeable and listened to what we wanted and what was within our budget. We were so confident after meeting him, we didn't speak to any other flooring companies. The installers were professional, punctual, and attentive to detail, ensuring a smooth process with minimal disruption to our home We are very satisfied with the overall quality of the work and would highly recommend Makki’s Carpet and Flooring to others."

"Amazing - Mainor and Evelyn were a pleasure to work with. Mainor even won over our grumpy old dog. Honest, good vibes and flexible, which was good because our project was a mess! Post-hurricane cleanup took months and our project crossed from 2021 to 2022 and Evelyn never made me feel bad. The floors look AMAZING now that they're in and I can't wait until we save up for floors upstairs since we already know who will do them!"

"The quality of the hardwood flooring was high. The removal of the old 40+ year old hardwood floor was hard work,, and they worked with 2 people and had it out in 4 hours.. The new one was in in 3 hrs. I recommend At Home Flooring. Quality work at a reasonable cost."

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

The flooring that is the least toxic is solid wood. Natural linoleum, tile, stone, bamboo, and cork flooring also make the list of least-toxic flooring types. These flooring materials are safer and healthier for your home because they are natural materials that aren’t manufactured with chemicals, unlike laminate flooring. While some laminate flooring brands are made with less formaldehyde, many contain high levels of toxic chemicals that can off-gas in your home for months and years after installation.

Choosing natural flooring materials that are easy to clean without chemical cleansers can also help keep your home safer.

Installing carpet on stairs involves a lot more cutting, tucking, tack strips, and time. The shape of your staircase, along with the material and construction of the carpet you’re installing, will also increase the cost. Carpet installation on stairs will cost $400 to $800 in total, but it can go as high as $2,500 for difficult staircases, such as wrap-around, upholstered, or spiral staircases.

Berber is the most expensive type of carpet, followed by textured carpet. Berber costs $3 to $20 per square foot, and textured carpet ranges from $1 to $12 per square foot. Berber features fibers arranged in short, thick loops, making it extraordinarily durable. The most expensive carpet material is wool, followed by acrylic, Triexta, and cotton. Wool costs $4 to $20 per square foot and is a beautiful, luxurious, and durable material. Acrylic, Triexta, and cotton range from $2 to $8 per square foot.

Transition strips are often called seam binders as they bridge the gap between two floor types. They are common between carpeting and hardwood or wood and tile. Transition strips prevent trips and falls and make the transition from each room appear seamless. They are also often used to even out height differences between floors.

No, thick carpet padding isn’t necessarily better than thinner padding. The appropriate padding thickness will depend on the type of carpet and the amount of foot traffic in the area.

For example, thick padding works well in low-traffic areas, like bedrooms, where you have soft and plush carpeting. However, thick carpet padding can damage low-pile carpet, which is used in the busiest parts of your home (like hallways and entryways). For that reason, it’s best to use thinner, heavier padding underneath carpet in high-traffic areas.
