"What a great experience. I've never re-upholstered before and did not know what to expect. From the first inquiry, Bernie was helpful and knowledgeable with recommendations on how to best fix dining room chairs. Visit the shop you'll see interesting before/after projects that demonstrate creativity and craftsmanship. Bernie even sent a video explaining the best way to clean the particular fabric I chose. Seriously - this is quality work at a fair price."

"The provider re-padded (2) leather sectionals and did a great job at a great price $125.00 per sectional.  They also "refurbished" a 1940's solid cherry wood card table.  They covered the scratches with a wood crayon and sprayed it with shellac.  It looked a little better but it was not worth the $425.00 they charged."

"All Natural Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning arrived exactly on time and immediately proceeded to set up and explaining their processes and next steps. The completion was timely, and they provided advice on how to better care for my furniture, which led me to add a notice on my calendar for my next appointment. I highly recommend Dexter and his crew and will definitely look forward to working with them, again!"

"The carpets are cleaner than any other company has got them. I took half a star off because when the carpets dried, there was a small circular stain left by where the machine was parked at the end of the service. This was essentially left by dirty water and was easy to remove. They were very pleasant and thorough, and came exactly when they promised."

"Beautifully! Dexter is very professional and polite. He arrived on time and cleaned and put my furniture back as it was. He was able to get my upholstery cleaner than I had hope...it looks like new again! Thank you Dexter!"

"Dave was right on time and responsive when I had some questions. We have a 20-year-old rug that looks great after the cleaning. The process used was wonderful.... didn't leave the rug wet at all."

"He did some renovation in the basement and crown molding for me. He does very neat work, reliable and if I have some things that needs to do I would definitely call him again. He was very good in what he does, offers opinions and he's creative."

Upholstering questions, answered by experts

If your usually super soft couch feels crusty and rough after cleaning, it could be that you haven’t removed the cleaning product properly, you used too much, or you applied the wrong type. Always check the couch tags to select the right cleaning product, read application instructions carefully, and test on an inconspicuous corner. For fabrics such as microfiber, you can soften and fluff crusty fibers using a soft-bristled brush.

Paper moving pads, also called furniture wrapping paper or paper moving blankets, are sheets of recycled paper used to protect various items during moving. Similar to traditional moving blankets, paper pads are also reusable, making them a sustainable and cost-effective option for protecting your belongings during the moving process. Although they’re recycled, they still provide excellent protection against dust, dirt, and scratches.

Regular vacuuming, spot cleaning, and protecting surfaces from sun exposure prevents wear and fading, preserving longevity.

It is generally worth repairing leather furniture rather than replacing it, as it is typically more affordable and the material tends to retain its value. A typical repair averages around $250, which is significantly less than the thousands of dollars a replacement could cost. Even a full reupholstering, which can cost up to $4,000, may still be more economical than buying new. With proper care, repaired leather furniture can last for many years, making the investment worthwhile. However, if the underlying structure or frame of the furniture is damaged or malfunctioning, replacement might be a better option. The quality of the leather and the furniture piece are also important factors. For a definitive answer, it is best to consult a leather repair professional to assess your specific situation.

As with any project, weighing the pros and cons of upholstery can help determine if that is the right choice for you. The ultimate question is whether it’s worth reupholstering instead of buying new furniture. Here are a few of the benefits and disadvantages of reupholstering a piece of furniture.

Pros:

  • Preserving a family heirloom

  • Maintaining high-quality furniture in good condition

  • Reinventing an old piece of furniture

  • Keeping a piece of furniture from going to a landfill

Cons:

  • Spending (possibly) more than to buy a new piece of furniture

  • Finding out the frame is beyond repair

  • Waiting for the reupholstery work to be done
