"The crew showed up on time and did a fantastic job of unclogging gutters and downspouts with absolutely no mess. However, when I first called to setup the appointment they answered the phone with "Hey". No introduction or mention of the company I was trying to call. Given that greeting, I was apprehensive about having them do work, but glad I did because they did an amazing job at fair cost."

"This guy was great. He brought his own truck and was a professional. Unlike some that show up in a mini van with a small power washer from sears this guy had the equipment to get the job done. He and his two helpers worked for 4 hours on a 4000 square foot home. I have to admit with a black shingled roof my white gutters were ugly. We had been looking for several years for the person that could get these gutters cleaned? I wish I had taken b4 pictures so I could post them. This house looks great. He cleaned all the siding, gutters, down spouts and window seals. If your looking for a professional that will get the job done call this guy, thanks Rich for doing a great job ? Gutter Repair and Replacement questions, answered by experts

The trick to getting gleaming gutters can vary based on the material of your gutters. Aluminum gutters can often be restored to pristine condition by using a cloth to scrub them with a solution consisting of 1 cup of vinegar and 1 cup of water. Vinyl gutters can be whitened using dish soap and water. For deeply stained vinyl gutters, adding bleach with water and dish soap may help to remove black streaks. Many retailers sell premixed gutter sprays. Applying cleaning solutions to dry gutters before rinsing can help cleaners attach to dirt and grime for easier removal.

Downspouts channel water from your roof and gutters into the ground following a specific route so water doesn’t accumulate around your house’s foundation. Without a downspout, the standing water will wash away material and disrupt the soil, leading to foundation erosion. The standing water will also form ice around your house during cold weather, causing a safety hazard.

In most cases, it makes more sense to repair leaking or damaged gutters than it will to replace them. You’ll spend an average of $400 to repair your gutters, while full replacement will cost around $2,000 or more, depending on the gutter material and style and the size of your home. If your gutters are nearing the end of their lifespan—usually around 20 years for aluminum or vinyl gutters or up to 50 years for copper or steel—then it might make sense to replace them, as it could cost you less in the long run.

There are a handful of things you can look for to determine if you need to pay for gutter repairs, including the following:

  • Water leaking from the underside of your gutters during rainfall

  • Visible gaps between your gutters and your roof

  • Frequent issues with gutters overflowing or holding standing water

  • Gutters that sag or pull away from the house

  • Water damage to soffits, fascia boards, or other building materials

  • Mold growth on your exterior walls

  • Soil erosion underneath your roof overhang

  • Foundation leaks or inward bowing of foundation walls

While minimal drippage may not be problematic, gutters that are constantly leaking or overflowing indicate damage or improper installation. A rain chain gutter or other ornamental feature may produce more dripping than usual. Likewise, rain dispersal systems may also cause water to sprinkle to the ground. However, if you notice pools of water or flooding around your property, then it’s a good idea to have your gutter system inspected.
