"Harvey and his crew were absolutely top notch!! From the first moment I reached out to Harvey I had a good feeling, and that was confirmed when we met for an evaluation of the work and an estimate. Harvey's communication is probably the best of any contractor I've ever experienced, his prices are very fair, and he's punctual! My floors look like new and the walls came out beautifully, you can't even notice the spots that were so severely damaged before! Once the primary work was finished there were a few minor touches that needed to be addressed and Harvey came personally to oversee everything was done perfectly! You'd think it was his own house he was working on, he took such care! I can not say enough good things about this man and his work, take it from me I'm as picky and as much of a perfectionist as they come! For any contractor needs, look no further than Harvey at Heartland!"

"Robert Smilow is an outstanding construction contractor. I have resently used his services for two projects and will once again reach out to him to make suggestions for home improvements. Robert is unquestionably talent, reliable and honest. My first experience was a wet basement. Another contractor informed me that to correct the issue would cost thousands of dollars. Robert advised me at how to solve the water issue by performing a few easy remedies on my own. It cost $25 and now the water and basement are dry. I need additional outlets. Robert arranged for DelVal Electric to meet with me. The work was completed in two days. DelVal Electric did a great job at a reasonable rate. Bravo Robert!!!"

Carlos Palomino is the very best when it comes to remodeling. He originally register his company as a handyman. Very quickly people learned that his craftsmanship was the very best. He went from being a handyman to building bran new homes in no time. The difference is he is not going to sub a lot of work out; he is able to do most things himself. Having a general contractor on the job gives you not only excellence but you can count he is on time as well.

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Enhances property value, ensures safety, and provides a sound basis for future construction.

Removing a load-bearing wall affects the structural integrity of your home, so you’ll need a permit before starting the work. Building codes vary by municipality, and obtaining a permit and having the work inspected after completion will ensure you’re in compliance with all applicable regulations.

One of the most common house framing basics for decades has been using wood for the framing work. However, some framing contractors now suggest using steel frames. Steel is lightweight, resistant to fire, and resistant to moisture, all of which are areas where wood framing could cause problems. However, steel framing is more expensive than wood and limits your ability to insulate the home.

Proper Murphy bed installation minimizes the risk of wall damage. A secure attachment requires making some holes for anchors or brackets, but these can be easily patched if the bed is removed. To ensure the installation is done correctly and safely, hiring a professional is recommended, especially if you have limited DIY experience.

In framing, studs are placed at 16-inch intervals to coincide with the typical spacing of wall materials such as drywall or plywood. This spacing is called "on-center" and is necessary for maintaining structural stability and efficient use of materials. The 16-inch spacing also helps to distribute the weight evenly across the building's structure. For those looking to cut material costs and improve energy efficiency, 24-inch stud spacing can be employed through a method called "advanced framing". This requires careful planning and adherence to local building codes to ensure structural integrity.
