"We are very happy with the landscaping that was done in the front of our home. It was in poor shape for a long time, so everything needed to be ripped out and replaced. We love the dark mulch that Brian suggested and all of the plants and flowers he picked out for us (I know nothing about flowers so I asked him to give us his recommendations). He was very patient with me through the whole process and didn't mind at all that I asked for input on what should be planted. I would absolutely hire Landscape Impressions again as well as recommend them to my friends."

"Angel and his team are incredible! We first spoke on a Wednesday, he sent the estimate IMMEDIATELY, we scheduled the work and it was completed that Saturday. He and his team were right on time and they were so professional, so hard working, so efficient and so kind. Angel was also always responsive to any questions I had along the way. They completed our mulching project in great time, they did an incredible job and they thoroughly cleaned up after. We are so pleased with their services and plan to work with them again for our future landscaping needs. Highly recommend Angel and his team."

Customers say: Quality work

"We hired Ernest and Sons to construct our patio tiles. We purchased 2' X 2' Tiles and I have to say they did a gorgeous job. I was so pleased with the way they showed up when they said they would. The men that laid out on my job worked so hard. The labor was very strenuous but they never took a break. They were the most conscientious and polite workers I've ever dealt with. They worked neatly, cleaned up totally afterward, and just had a great deal of respect for our property. They really did a beautiful job and Ernest, the owner is a real gentleman also. Love this company!"

"This company from its owner to its employees are some of the best in the industry. I expanded my driveway, created a new walkway and created a brand new patio and stairs in my backyard. The outcome was excellent. During the job they were neat, organized and professional. Most importantly they made sure I was satisfied. Fantastic work!!"

Mulch and Topsoil questions, answered by experts

If you are xeriscaping a lawn from scratch, your best bet for preparing the lawn is to work with a xeriscaping specialist in your area. The most common first step to making the transformation, however, will be to remove the turfgrass from your lawn. The subsequent steps will often include amending the soil to support new plants and installing low-drip or drip irrigation systems.

A 40-pound bag of topsoil covers 0.76 cubic feet, enough for 4.5 square feet with a 2-inch depth or 36 square feet with a .25-inch depth, such as topdressing a standard garden bed. If you want 2 inches of fresh topsoil for your 36-square-foot garden bed, you’ll need eight 40-pound bags.

While they’re popular and have a lot of pros, the cons of river rocks include the following:

  • River rocks don’t break down or provide nutrients to plants.

  • These stones can get hot and scorch nearby plants.

  • River stones may heat the surrounding soil to inhospitable temperatures.

  • Rocks can block rainwater from seeping into the ground if installations are too thick or tightly packed.

Most downsides occur when using river rock as mulch in gardens and flower beds. However, you can still incorporate river rocks into your landscape as long as you use them in the correct ways.

Yes, rotting leaves can be good for your soil. The decaying leaves release nutrients into the soil that can boost the health of your plants, and the organic matter also helps improve airflow and water drainage.

Mulch can increase the aesthetic and curb appeal of your property, and it provides a ton of benefits for your trees, shrubs, and even your foundation. Here are some of the benefits of installing mulch:

  • Protects your trees from weed whacker strikes

  • Helps regulate moisture in the soil for better plant and tree health

  • Can improve your home’s curb appeal and, therefore, your property value

  • Reduces how much runoff soaks into the soil around your foundation, potentially reducing the risk of foundation damage and leaking
