"Charles Schwartz was available immediately for us when we called. We met him the next day, and he did an extremely thorough mold inspection/assessment of the house we were planning to buy. He tested the surfaces and the air for mold. We were able to determine what type of mold it was, where it was located, the extent of the problem, the cause of the problem and a plan to remediate. He was highly professional and scientific. He was patient with us, available to answer our questions, and thorough in his report. We felt very much able to trust his advice, and now have a plan in terms of moving forward with what we will need the seller to do in order to properly remediate the problem. We would definitely highly recommend his services."

Mold Testing and Remediation questions, answered by experts

Wood stain is not considered toxic after it dries. The solvents in wood stain are what give off volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are toxic, but these dissolve as the product dries, leaving behind a non-toxic product. When working with wood stain, you should always wear a respirator and rubber gloves to protect yourself, but once it dries fully, it’s not toxic, according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

If you believe mold is hidden somewhere in your home, don’t delay inspecting it, as it can be dangerous, especially to people with breathing problems and allergies. While it’s possible to learn how to check for mold yourself, we advise most people to hire a professional mold inspector, who can look more thoroughly. You can also purchase mold test kits if you aren’t sure if your home has mold, but a true human inspector is still your best bet.

Rust in your bathtub occurs when iron in the water or on metal components in your tub are exposed to oxygen, but while it’s unsightly, it won’t make bathing dangerous. However, if the rust appears under or around your tub spout or shower head, it could indicate that you have high levels of iron in your water. Drinking water with small amounts of iron in it usually doesn’t pose a health risk, but you might want to consider installing a water softener. The presence of iron could indicate that you have hard water, which can create some plumbing issues.

Signs of mold sickness often manifest as respiratory issues, including coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, and sneezing. You might also experience symptoms that resemble allergies, such as itchy eyes and sinus infections. Other telltale signs include skin irritations, persistent and unexplainable headaches, and mental confusion, often described as 'brain fog.' It's important to remember that mold can cause health problems even if it's not visible, as it can grow inside walls. If you are experiencing these unexplained symptoms, you may want to consider a professional mold inspection.

Slime mold will go away on its own within a few days to a couple of weeks. Generally, there is no need to use chemicals on this matter. If you want to get rid of it right away, rake over the slime mold and the surrounding area or hose off large patches of it.
