"Upon calling HomeAdvisor, Jason called me within minutes. He was at my house within 15 minutes. Thanks God, I did not have electricity in half of my house. Jason inspected everything & called Dan to check at ends of circuits/cables. I was being explained everything & why (learned a lot about circuits, junction boxes, outlets, etc). Of course they found the problem & fixed it immediately. My wife and I were so happy, I had them install a new circuit for the kitchen oven & install a new roof vent fan. We were so lucky to find these gentlemen. Their costumer Service, attitude, knowledge and professionalism is second to none. I highly recommend them. Thank you Jason and Dan."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Though they may seem similar at a quick glance, outdoor electrical outlets are different from indoor electrical outlets in that they have extra safety precautions to prevent electrical hazards. These include GFCIs, which some indoor outlets have, and a watertight cover that allows you to use electricity from the outlet even on a rainy day.

Natural gas and electricity rates vary significantly based on location, and pricing can change over time, too. It’s possible that in locations where natural gas is particularly inexpensive, it will cost less than grid-based electricity will. However, you should also factor in the generator’s initial costs and maintenance needs, as well as its noise level and if it can comfortably power all your home appliances.

You’ll need to locate and hire an electrician near you if there’s an electrical project you don’t feel comfortable tackling yourself. Generally, look for a contractor that specializes in the type of appliance or component that you need help with. For wiring, outlets and similar projects, a general electrician is your best bet. For larger remodels, a general contractor will often take care of electrical projects via subcontractors.

If your microwave is on the fritz and you suspect the fuse has blown, you can check it to confirm it’s the source of the problem. Start by disassembling the panel and carefully checking the fuse filament or ceramic components. If your microwave uses a glass fuse, you’ll likely see discoloration and a melted filament. If your microwave contains a ceramic fuse, you’ll need to use a multimeter continuity tester to check if there’s continuity.

While circuit breakers are designed to be reset after tripping, there isn't a strict countdown to when they will fail. The primary danger lies in a breaker tripping multiple times in a short period without allowing the components to cool down. Theoretically, a standard breaker might handle around 50 trips caused by simple overloading. However, this number can be much lower in practice. For instance, a high-current fault could damage a breaker to the point that it needs replacement after only two resets. Repeatedly resetting a breaker that trips frequently exacerbates the underlying problem by causing the electrical components, wires, and the breaker itself to overheat. This can lead to permanent damage, cause the breaker to trip unnecessarily in the future, and increase the risk of an electrical fire. If a breaker trips every few minutes, you should leave it in the 'off' position and call a qualified electrician for an inspection.
