Small jobs welcome

"It was a pleasure working with Mirek on this project. He did an excellent job listening to my ideas, but also had his input on his own vision. You can tell heâ s a very experienced architect. Iâ m glad my contractor recommended him and I will definitely be using him in the future again!"

"Joe designed a beautiful family room addition to expand our Cape Cod style home. His design integrated the new room beautifully into the existing house and it looks like it was always there.  All of the builders who bid on his design remarked how detailed and complete his plans were. I would use him again without hesitation. A really good architect and a heck of a nice guy.

"Mark Michaels is a true professional and detail orientated architect. You will welcome his friendly warm kind personality. He will be sure to help bring your vision to light through his drawings. We are happy with his attention to detail and the outcome of our two story extension and bath. This is our second time working with Mark and are currently adding on a bedroom extension. Our experience and outcome have been wonderful.

"John was great- the reason I ultimately hired him was because he responded to all my emails answering questions before I decided to proceed with our project. I appreciated how he always got back to me quickly either by phone or email, and the blueprints were done efficiently. He guided us throughout the whole process and even offered referrals to contractors. His fees are very reasonable, and he is a fully licensed architect. Would hire again in a heartbeat!"

Architects questions, answered by experts

Universal design is a design concept that states that products, spaces, and general environments are designed to be used by everyone, with an emphasis on accessibility for those with limited mobility or other special needs.

You likely need to hire an architect for your new house design and build, unless you have the design skills and experience with building regulations and standards needed to get your plans approved. If you are able to meet the design requirements, you can hire a draftsperson to create the blueprints for the builders to follow.

Utilize CAD software for precision, modern design visualization, and alterations.

Universal design costs can be minimal when you add them during construction; however, adding universal design principles to existing homes can sometimes increase renovation costs. For example, a mid-grade bathroom remodel is estimated to cost around $30,000, while a standard universal design remodel can cost closer to $40,000. Adding accessible design components can include widening hallways ($500 to $2,000), curbless showers ($2,000 to $8,000), and widening doors ($400 to $800). Keep in mind that these increased costs can lead to higher resale values because universal homes may appeal to a wider variety of buyers.

In most cases, you should get an architect before you hire a builder. An architect will be the one to draw up formal plans for your project, including guidelines and even material lists for your builder to follow during construction. Many architects can even help you find builders, choose one for your project, and negotiate prices. Some are also willing to act as project managers throughout the process, working closely with a builder from start to finish.
