"I hired Elite Tile Systems to remove all the old floor and tub-surround tiles in my main bathroom. They did a fabulous job! Michael Yazbek, the project manager, was incredibly responsive and helpful every step of the way. And the price was very reasonable, in fact, lower than some other bids I had. The crew was friendly and professional, and got the job done promptly and with no unnecessary delays. They also had great recommendations for an electrician and a plumber, both of whom I will use again. I would hire Elite Tile Systems for any other tile work I might need in a heartbeat. I cannot recommend them highly enough!"

Customers say: Super punctual

"I called Tom for an estimate and he showed up exactly when he said he would. I was happy with his proposal and scheduled the work. Tom installed ceramic tile on my kitchen subfloor. He removed the old tile floor in the bathroom and installed new tile. Since I am getting new countertops installed in my kitchen, I had him remove the old countertop and range hood as well. Tom was on time every day and cleaned up nicely. The floors came out great! I will be hiring Tom to install my kitchen backsplash and 2 additional rooms later on. He also told me how much tile and grout to get for each project. I would highly recommend Tom for any tile projects you may have."

"If you need tile work done, Gabe is the Man!! He is such a talented craftsman. He is also extremely pleasant to deal with, and does everything within his power to please his customer. He did a large tile job (about 750 sq ft) with porcelain tile in my foyer, kitchen, hallway, bathroom and laundry room. What a wonderful transformation and I can not thank him enough!!!"

"The work was perfect. We thought about tearing down the old blue tile and ripping out the tub but after finding out about this company we decided to re-glaze the tub and tile. It looks great but more importantly my wife thought so. From the time i called to hire them ato the time of completion i believe it was done in a week. Work was neat and professional. Great job."

"We had a small tile backsplash/trim project for our guest half-bath. More a decor feature than functional so we wanted it done professionally. We already purchased all the materials and only needed labor. Home Art Tile made it very easy. Connected via Angie, measurements were done remotely via text and photos. Got a quick and fair estimate. They scheduled us for later in the month but had a cancellation and was able to move our installation to the same week as the quote! The installer was very professional, prompt and clean. We reviewed the scope of work and he went right up work. We had glass-based tiles that required a fair amount of cutting. Hi noticed a few chipped and cracked tiles and asked if he could replace those if there was enough left over. He was able to do so. Nice craftsmanship. Very satisfied with the work."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Thinset mortar is the best adhesive for ceramic tiles on concrete. It is easy to work with and has a slower dry time than mastic or epoxy mortars. This longer dry time gives the installer more time to adjust tiles, which is especially useful for DIYers who may not have tile installation experience. It can also be built up to help level any depressions or gaps in the concrete subfloor.

If you hire a professional to lay tile, you can expect to pay $3 to $15 per square foot for labor. For a 100-square-foot tiling project, that would equal $30 to $150 in labor. These costs may increase if you need extra services (such as tile removal, wall repair, or waterproofing). For example, tile removal costs an additional $2 to $7 per square foot.

Figure out how much tile you need by measuring the backsplash area. Measure the height and length in feet and multiply to get the square footage. Don’t make adjustments for outlets or small cutouts but subtract the square footage for windows or other large obstructions from the total. To account for waste, get 10% more than your calculation.

Silicone caulk shouldn’t be used in place of grout because each material serves its own purpose. Thanks to its flexibility, silicone caulk is good for sealing around the perimeter of tiled floors, where movement and expansion might occur. However, grout is more durable, making it a better option for the joints in between tiles, which need to withstand constant weight and foot traffic.

Grout and caulk are commonly used together, especially in bathrooms. Grout goes between the tiles and keeps them sturdy and in place on the walls or floor. Caulk goes in corners or where two different materials meet (like where the bathtub meets the tile) to create a waterproof seal. However, they are not interchangeable—you shouldn't use caulk to adhere tile and shouldn’t use mortar if you need a waterproof seal.
