"Overall was fine. System seems to work good. I did not appreciate having to fill out background check paperwork to lease a water softener. They said, it is just the paperwork we use to check your credit. We signed a lease for 6 months and plan to purchase the system."

"I highly recommend Steve at Convenient Water Treatment. Text or call him at 402-953-6767 or call 402-451-6010. We have never met a more honest company in our entire lives. When the sprinkler guy adjusted the water pressure too high in our home, for some reason the water softener stopped working. We called Steve for help. He fixed the water softener and adjusted the water pressure. He even fixed our shower head and faucet. He spent time checking everything and adjusted the water softener to regen so many number of days. He did not charge us for this labor. He is a very kind person. Steve is very loyal to his work and takes pride in himself. So if you need a new water softener or if your water softener needs to be serviced, call Steve, trust me you will never be disappointed. Check customer reviews online; Steve is a 5 star guy!"

Water Softeners FAQs, answered by experts

Drinking hard water is not known to have any negative health impacts. Using hard water can lead to dry skin and hair, and the minerals in hard water can build up in pipes, faucets, and appliances. Hard water is more of a threat to your plumbing than it is to your health.

Yes, a water softener can remove scale deposits. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, after you add a water softener to your home, “gradually the softer water will dissolve limescale scale deposits and remove the problem entirely.” Installing a water softener—or water descaler—will also help prevent new scale deposits from forming.

There are many possibilities for why your shower’s water pressure is low. It might be a simple-to-fix issue like the water valves being partially turned off, a dirty showerhead or hose, leaks in the plumbing, or an old showerhead. However, low water pressure in the shower could also indicate a larger issue with your home’s plumbing system.

The average cost to install a water softener, including the system and labor, is approximately $1,500. However, the total price can range widely from $600 to $6,000. For some complete systems, the cost may be between $800 and $2,500. Labor for the installation typically costs between $150 and $1,000.

The final price is influenced by several factors, including:

  • System type, capacity, and complexity

  • Home size and household water demands

  • Water hardness levels

  • Accessibility of the installation site and the extent of plumbing work required

  • Whether new electrical work is needed

  • The professional hired and any local permit costs

The main difference between a water softener and a water filter is what they remove from the water. A water softener is specifically designed to remove hard minerals, while a filter removes a wider range of contaminants above a certain size, such as bacteria and other impurities. If your primary goal is to remove minerals, a softener is the best choice. If you want to remove various contaminants for safety or taste, a filter is more suitable. Filters are also typically less expensive to install. Depending on your water supply's specific issues, you may need to install both systems for comprehensive treatment.
