"Working with my salesman, Zach H., was a wonderful experience. He was always available to answer questions. My new windows are so superior to my old ones. I will be replacing more windows soon, The installation went smoothly and the 3 other windows I had wrapped look great."

"Mike's company installed new windows, new vinyl siding and new gutters on our 20 year old house. Mike was very easy to work with and was very patient as my wife and I decided on colors. Mike also worked around other work that we were doing to our house as well (new fence and replaced brick with stone on front of house). We have received many very positive comments about our new siding and how nice it looks. We are impressed with the quality of the siding installation as well as the installation of the windows and gutters. Mike was also able to accommodate a last minute color change for some of the trim and soffits. The only minor complaint that I have is that I had to cleanup up a little trash out of the bushes around the house. My wife and I highly recommend Mike and the National Siding and Windows team for anyone that is looking to give their house a facelift like we did."

"We replaced the windows in our 1933 home through the services of MadCity Windows. From the initial contact with their sales representative to final installation, the company provided top notch professional work. With the draft from the old windows and the cold of the glass, we are already saving on our energy bills. Our house had old, large windows, so they had to be custom made. As an industrial designer and interior designer, we find our windows to be of excellent quality."

Windows questions, answered by experts

While plywood will keep winds and debris from shattering your windows from the outside, window film can help protect your windows from the inside. Window film can keep a window from shattering. If your windows break, the film can hold the shards of glass in place, reducing the risk of cuts.

While you may sometimes see window film marketed as "hurricane window film," note that it doesn't provide sufficient hurricane protection on its own. It's no substitute for plywood, storm windows, or hurricane shutters.

Hot water removes grime more efficiently than cold water and evaporates more quickly so that your windows will dry faster. However, you may want to use cold water instead if your windowsill paint is chipping or peeling because heat can worsen this condition.

High winds can be harmful to casement windows and all types of windows. Because casement windows can swing outward, high winds could slam the window against the side of the house, bend the hinges, or even rip the window off of the hinges. If you hear some strong gusts outside, it’s best to pull the casement windows shut until it all blows over.

Picture windows are still in style, even though they are one of the oldest types of windows. Other windows, like single- or double-hung windows and casement windows, have increased in popularity because they can open up for fresh air. However, homeowners still love the way a picture window can frame their lush outdoor garden or other pleasant neighborhood views.

The most common types of window frames include frame and sash, metal or aluminum frames, composite frames, fiberglass frames, vinyl frames, wood frames, glass or glazed frames, and insulated frames. Frames can also be categorized by operating types, such as awning frames, single/double-sliding frames, fixed frames, casement frames, and single/double-hung frames.
