Whether you should get rid of paper wasps depends on a few factors. If you are dealing with a large population and have household members or pets that are being stung frequently, it’s best to get rid of these wasps. But they aren’t all bad. Paper wasps feed on common garden pests, like caterpillars and beetle larva, that can harm your plants.

The main reason wolf spiders gravitate towards houses is the presence of their prey, including insects like flies and ants. Their attraction is also heightened by the availability of suitable shelter in areas cluttered or undisturbed and in moisture-rich environments like basements. Openings and gaps in the structure provide an easy access point for these spiders. During cold weather, wolf spiders may also seek warmth indoors, making your home an attractive refuge during harsh weather conditions.

When it comes to keeping birds from doing their business on your porch rails, you have several DIY options and home remedies you can try: 

• Tie a fishing line from one end of the deck post to the other. Birds won’t be able to see the line across the railing, so they can’t land on it.  

• Hang wind chimes close by, which may scare birds away. 

• Apply a bird gel repellent to the railings, which contains smells that birds generally don’t like. Or, similarly, you can apply citronella or lemon oil around the railings, since birds don’t like strong smells.

Whether dryer sheets can keep squirrels away is a bit of a mystery because the evidence is entirely anecdotal. Many households claim to have success with using dryer sheets for keeping squirrels away by placing them throughout their attics, yards, on a clothesline, and any other area where squirrels like to run through. Squirrels do not like strong scents, so if you try using dryer sheets, the ones with the strongest scent may be the most effective.
