They told me $69.00 so I scheduled the call. The electrician came to my house, took a quick look around and then sat for around 2 hours doing an 'appraisal'. He told me that he would not do any work on the house because it would not pass the electrical inspection (it was in a 'pending' status at the time) and that they would probably have to do a 'demolition' of the walls, which would cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $5,000.00 to $10,000.00. At the end of this long, rambling appraisal, he presented me with a bill for approximately $380.00. That was bad enough to have to pay that for no work, but the most outrageous thing about it was that the appraisal was dead wrong. When I had the county electrical inspector out to my house a few days later, the house did pass the inspection (although the garage did not), so the Paris Plumbing electrician's diagnosis was totally wrong about the house. I kept looking until I found a reliable and trustworthy electrician to do the work on the garage to bring it up to code."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/tn/mcminnville/paris-plumbing-and-electric-reviews-6284026.htm"},"position":4},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"LifeBuilders","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"NC","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Sam W."},"reviewBody":"I found this company/person through a local community website. After I paid him $8300 he said he needed another $8300 to finish it. I later got quotes from a couple other places and they weren’t that expensive. But I was in a hurry to get it done. He started with a reasonable estimate and he wanted half of it right then. He came back on Monday and said he’d been thinking about it and he added another good little amount. It just went on and on. It took months to get it done. The sump pumps weren’t connected to electricity. Service person did a quick look-see and said my A/C needed to have everything replaced that wasn't shiny new and the refrigerant adjusted for an estimated $2,096.00. Told him no to the additional work and that II only wanted the wire reconnected. I was charged $103.53, for reattaching the wire with a wire nut, for a total of $163.48. After the service person left I noticed that he had left the wires exposed to the elements. I called and they were reluctant to have the service person return, however he came back a few days later, put a piece of electrical tape on the wire nut and left without saying a word.
Called Advanced Air Heating, talked to Bob, who came out, took the compressor apart, cleaned the inside and outside, inspected the unit, checked refrigerant and wrapped the wires in electrical tape, Next went inside and adjusted the blower speed for the correct A/C tonage, inspected the ducts, and replaced the air filter. Cost $60.00

He had our electrical service switched over and power restored in under 6 hours. He straightened out the existing wiring nightmare and did a lot of clean up to make the system safer. Most of the work was done on the first day, having only to return to install the HVAC circuits in the attic and outside. He corrdinated with our HVAC contractor to locate the disconnects to his specs. Based on discussions with coworkers about service upgrades on their homes, we got great service at a great price. We had selected a high efficiency system through research on the web and were happy with the quote provided by Chance Lawrence. The work was done in under two days. Mr. Lawrence was very patient in answering all our questions. One minor issue with some missing screws was easily resolved when pointed out. We had asked that he coordinate with our electrician as we were updating our electrical service at the same time. This was done and helped control the cost of our electrical work."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/nc/eden/lawrence-heating-and-cooling-inc-reviews-5716796.htm"},"position":9}]}

FAQs for electrical service projects in Winton, NC
It’s important to ask an electrician a few questions before you commit to hiring them so you can make an informed decision as a consumer. If you’re getting estimates or considering hiring an electrician, ask them these questions:
Are you a full-time electrician?
Are you bonded, licensed, and insured?
What level of experience do you have as an electrician?
Can you please share three references?
Do you do residential or commercial electrical work?
What kinds of electrical work are you most familiar with?
Will any subcontractors be performing the work?
Are permits and inspections required?
Who is responsible for obtaining permits and inspections?
What is your schedule?
Do you offer a guarantee or warranty on your work?
Will you sign a do-not-exceed clause to keep the job within the budget?
Tipping an electrician is not a requirement nor is it expected, as they build a fair wage into the price of the job. It’s up to your discretion. There are no set rules for tipping electricians, but if they did a great job and you’re so inclined to tip 10% to 15%, it will likely be received with thanks.
Yes, you should get a quote or an estimate from an electrician. Most electricians offer free estimates or quotes. When getting quotes, do your research and verify each electrician’s license. Get quotes from three different electricians to compare. If the prices or items listed appear different on the quotes, ask the electrician to clarify. Learning as much as you can about the electrical work you want done will help you get the most accurate estimate.
Qualified, licensed electricians will charge from $50 to $100 per hour. The cost to hire an electrician for emergency visits may range from $100 to $200 per hour because this urgent service usually takes place during off hours and may require an electrician to leave or reschedule jobs they’re currently working on. Scheduling work on holidays or during periods of high customer demand, like after a major storm, will also lead to higher rates or extra fees.
Yes, although there are different types of electricians, they must be licensed, certified, and in most cases insured. States have different requirements for electrician licensing and certifications. In some cases, there may be licensing requirements at the local level, but not the state level. It’s always a good practice to confirm requirements with your local municipality. If licensing is not required in your area, you may pay more for a licensed electrician with experience than one who is not licensed or certified, but you’re likely to get a better end result for your project.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review
Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
