"The team determined that it was not a clog or roots (another company said that was the cause), but that the connection of the sewer had shifted down and the wasted was not able to continue up the pipe. The replacement cost was much better than expected and job was done e in 4 hours on a very hot afternoon."

Brandon at Warren & Sons answered my call for help; he was able to come to my home & unplug the toilet in between two appointments that I had that day. "Prompt and professional, answered our questions and gave good recommendations for future maintenance. We initially scheduled a septic cleaning using Angie's List coupon, but added the additional cleaning of station since needed. It was not pushed on us! We chose to get everything brought up-to-date at this time. We'll certainly call them in the future for any needs!

"It is a privilege to give William Parrish Plumbing my highest recommendation. Our project included drain/flush of a tank-less hot water system and repair of a cracked toilet valve. The work was performed by Pedro who was personable, knowledgeable, and a true craftsman at his trade. He presented several work options so I could pick the service best meeting my needs. Pedro was efficient and extremely clean. You can't go wrong with these guys."

Sewer Cleaning questions, answered by experts

The cost to repair a main sewer line clog is about $3,110 on average. The average cost range is  $1,310 to $4,950, but it can go as low as $215 and as high as $9,300 or more. The cost factors for this repair include the severity of the clog, pipe accessibility, video inspection, removal method, permits, pipe material, labor rates in your area, and time of year. Repairs made from outside during the winter can be more difficult due to the frozen ground or during the spring if the ground is saturated from a lot of rain and snow melt.

There is conflicting advice on whether to leave a baking soda and vinegar mixture in a drain overnight. Some sources suggest it can be effective for tough clogs, recommending that you flush the drain with warm water in the morning as part of a monthly cleaning routine. However, other experts advise against leaving the mixture in for extended periods, as its caustic nature could corrode drainpipes if used too often or left in for too long.

It can take anywhere from half an hour to a few hours to fix a main line clog, depending on the cause and severity of it. The job should not take more than a day to complete. Keep in mind that the main line is not the same as your home’s sewer lines (which connect to the main line and run to your house). Your city is responsible for any clogs or damage to the main line itself.

Snaking a drain can take as little as a few minutes for small, simple clogs, up to two hours or more for tough clogs located further down the drain line. For tougher clogs, a professional drain cleaner can likely get the job done much more quickly because they have the necessary tools and expertise. However, your drain cleaning pro might not be able to give you a firm time estimate until inspecting the clog and its surrounding plumbing.

Never pour used motor oil down the drain. Doing so can have serious environmental consequences, including contaminating groundwater, endangering animals, and killing vegetation. It can also clog your pipes, causing backups in your plumbing or the wastewater treatment plant. In most places, pouring motor oil down the drain is illegal, whether you do it in your home or a storm drain.
