"Great experience. We had washout area under the concrete surrounding our pool. Tarheel came out to review our project and gave us an estimate for injecting foam to raise our concrete that had fallen and also fill in gaps underneath that had washed out. Once we hired them, we got on their schedule. They sent reminders for our appointment, called the day they were coming to let us know when they would arrive. Tarheel performed the work, left our site clean. We are very happy with the service from beginning to end."

"They dug out and placed forms. Poured the cement and smoothed out. After the concrete set up they backfilled around where the forms were. They cleaned up afterward. The finished work looks great!"

"After another concrete contractor with many reviews did not schedule our job (twice) after giving me an estimate, I called Innovation Landscaping and Concrete. From the initial phone call to the completion of the work, this company is fabulous! Roberto, who answered my call, was very polite and was able to give a "ballpark" estimate over the phone for the size of patio. We agreed to schedule a visit for an actual estimate and they arrived on time. They were very thorough is discussing the job and were attentive to the work we wanted completed. The job required two appointments and on both days the crew arrived as stated. Roberto even called a few days prior to the first work appointment to confirm they would be out to do the work. The preparation work was great. They were attentive to the surrounding areas and formed the patio area just how we wanted it. On the day of the pour, they did final preparations for the concrete, and when the concrete truck arrived, it was amazing to watch the crew jump into action. It was easy to notice Carlos, Roberto and the other crew members are experts in working with concrete and were very orchestrated in how they put down the patio. The patio finish came out amazing! As well, the surrounding area was cleaned of any debree. The whole crew were complete professionals. We were very happy with our experience with Innovation Landscaping and Concrete. They gave a very competitive estimate, were a very polite crew, maintained their schedule, did an amazing finish to the patio, and cleaned the work area. Much appreciation to Roberto, Carlos and the other crew members!"

Concrete Walls questions, answered by experts

Unfortunately, concrete cracks happen, so there’s no surefire way to avoid them long-term. To slow down the cracking, apply a sealant every two to three years and use sand rather than salt to melt snow or ice. Using salt speeds up the freeze-thaw cycle, which may increase the likelihood of cracking. Additionally, keep vehicles and heavy machinery off of your concrete, as the weight can lead to more cracking.

Concrete houses cost 10% to 20% more to build than stick-built homes, and maintenance on home systems is more invasive and expensive due to pipes and wires being buried in concrete. Concrete homes can also look more industrial and less comfortable if you don’t cover the concrete with finishing materials. It’s also more challenging to make changes to concrete, so reframing doors and windows or building home additions will cost more. Concrete needs time to cure, too, so the timeline to build a house out of concrete is a bit longer.

The length of time it takes to construct a seawall depends on the size and material; commercial seawalls tend to be much more extensive and thus take longer to build. Expect the actual construction to take between a few weeks and a few months, but the preparation before work even begins might take just as long.

Yes, you can pour concrete if it rained the day before, but you’ll need to drain the construction site to ensure there isn’t standing water where your slab will sit. You might need to manually remove any puddles and set up drainage on your site to dry it before pouring. Moist soil won’t be an issue, but standing water will throw off your concrete mix ratios. Additionally, ensure there isn’t more rain expected in the near future before you pour.

It's safe to assume that all exterior walls are load-bearing, or at least have load-bearing characteristics. Some older homes feature porches or bump-outs that don't rest on the home's foundation. However, they still must carry the weight of the roof section they support. Walls containing floor-to-ceiling glass or other non-structural elements must use post and beam configurations to meet load-bearing criteria.
