"I originally hired Danzy to rebuild brickwork on my front entrance. I ultimately used him for multiple indoor and outdoor projects, INCLUDING overseeing other contractors who just were not as thorough or professional as he was. This guy can do anything!! My house is over 100 yrs old, and he has plenty of experience with older homes. Hire him first as your Project Manager, and he will get the work done!"

"The contractor Kushan explained the process from start to finish and insured we understood. He communicated throughout the process always taking the time to address our concerns and make minor changes as requested. Sebastian explained the electrical installation on terms we could understand. But most of all they would not finish until we were totally satisfied. There name says it all start to finish always professional."

"Everything went wonderfully! We had a lot done: floors, walls, new lights, new absolutely beautiful vanity, several huge mirrors put up with custom frames added, closet shelves built, and much more. It was done quickly and the work site was left tidy and safe at the end of each day. I have a child with Autism and sudden changes can be challenging for him, but they made him feel comfortable and happy with everything. Absolutely 100% recommend!"

"We were in a time crunch since we were about to have our firstborn and he was able to complete the job and turned out to be amazing. We had a special request and he transformed our guest bathroom into a laundry and still has a bathroom for our guests! 💪🏼"

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

It’s best to use two screws to secure deck boards into every joist. Securing the boards to every joist makes the deck more structurally sound, while using two screws on the outer sides of the boards can help prevent warping and cupping.

Yes, ceiling joists are typically load-bearing. However, their primary function is to support the weight of the ceiling and loads applied to it, like lighting fixtures and ceiling fans. They can also help support the roof, especially if they’re part of truss systems. Remember, the load-bearing capacity of ceiling joists depends on the material, size, and space between them.

Begin by analyzing the blueprints and gathering the proper materials before framing a house. With the prep stages behind you, begin by framing the floor of a house on the newly set foundation. Exterior and interior walls come next, along with rough openings for doors and windows. Contractors will then add ceiling and roof rafters to finish things off.

Most of the time, you’ll want to use screws on your subfloor rather than nails. Nails can actually weaken plywood, whereas screws can easily penetrate without damage. They also form a more secure connection because of their shape, preventing squeaky floors and tightly holding the subfloor in place. That said, some contractors do prefer nails depending on the type of floor covering because they allow for more flexibility.

Framing a basement takes three to five days, on average, when completed by a professional, though it may take longer for a larger space. Keep in mind this doesn’t include the time to complete the design, obtain permits, and install the drywall on the framing. On average, fully finishing a basement takes an average of 45 days.
