"Great honest contractors. They did my bathrooms, hot water heater, unclogged my house drain and they did a French drain so my basement is not wet anymore. I already hired them to do my whole roof in the spring. I will hire them anytime."

"We had carpet replaced in three bedrooms and hallway. From start to finish, sales to installation, everything went without a hitch. The sales manager helped us pick just the right flooring and the installation team did an excellent job. The floors are just beautiful and everyone was very professional and a pleasure to work with."

"The work took 6 days instead of 3-4, as quoted, due to the fact that they had to re-sand and apply polyurethane two additional times to get rid of the tiny grain like bumps that appeared once the floor dried. This meant having our home in disarray, dealing with toxic fumes and having our pets locked up for all these days. When we asked why there were all these bumps in the polyurethane, the owner said he did not know what caused them. You would think that a business that "claims" to specialize in wood floor installation would know these things. Other issues. Sloppy application of stain and polyurethane, that ran down the sides of staircase. The workers put a hole in wall, they did a poor job of patching it up. Cracked our baseboard molding. (poor repair job) Scuffed up all of inside entrance existing wood floor, which they denied causing. I have tried several solutions to remove all the scuffs, but I have to now hire a company to buff out my entrance hall area. Overall, this company was overpriced for what we got! The other company that we should have gone with included moving furniture, painting risers and spindles of staircase as part of the installation. And the price would have been close to IC Flooring. Now I am interviewing painters for the next step in completing this project; patching, repairing and painting all of which could have been done as part of the floor job. I feel that the rating we gave this company was more than fair."

Floor Sanding questions, answered by experts

Land surveying can help give clear guidance on your property boundaries for numerous situations. And in some cases, having your land surveyed is a requirement. Some common reasons to have your land surveyed include:

  • Planning for construction projects, like building a fence

  • Locating utilities, such as plumbing fixtures

  • Settling property line disputes

  • Creating subdivisions

  • Meeting mortgage requirements

  • Selling your property

Building a road on a slope requires careful planning and will normally require a drainage system underneath to prevent flooding and damage to the road over time. Your professional may lengthen your road to create switchbacks if the slope directly to your home is too steep, as there are regulations for maximum road slope. The drainage system will help prevent runoff from the higher side of the slope from damaging the asphalt or concrete. Keep in mind that building a road on a slope isn’t a good DIY project, as a lot can go wrong.

You can’t build on undeveloped land without preparing it for construction, which involves running utilities to the site or accounting for private utilities like wells and septic systems and grading and compacting the soil for safe construction. Once you prepare the land, you can build on it as long as the project abides by local zoning regulations.

This is fairly rare, but sometimes the local government or a group like a historical society will label a tree as a landmark, or historical item. These designations almost always come with a small, on-site plaque for identification, but you should also be able to look up protected trees in your area on a city website or similar list. If the tree in question is a landmark, call your local government and ask how to proceed before making any plans.

If you can’t find any records online, you’ll need to contact your county clerk’s office to do further research. They should have property records on file, or can at least point you in the right direction of who to contact. You can also speak with your neighbors about when their houses were built because they were likely built around the same time.
