"My situation was logistically unusual. I had a large item to move from one location (not my home) to a customer. I usually do my own heavy lifting but in this situation, I didn't have the right equipment. The timing for the delivery was tight but iValet was flexible enough to get the delivery done efficiently and on time. The price was fair, Ivy is a great guy to work with and he had no problem with me being involved. As I said, I don't mind the heavy lifting. If you're looking for heavy lifting done professionally, iValet is a great option."

Before a move, prioritize projects that involve repairing broken or old home features over ones with the highest ROI—because no amount of manufactured stone veneer will distract potential buyers from an interior that's falling apart. Only after you've tended to your home's biggest sore spots should you turn your attention to other potential renovations.

Parts of a mattress that can be recycled include the metal springs, wood frame, foam, and some fibers like cotton or wool that may be found in the fabric. Not all recycling centers accept mattresses, so call ahead. Alternatively, some mattress manufacturers take used mattresses for recycling.

Typically, you cannot recycle plastic bags, and most curbside recycling pickups exclude plastic bags. However, you can often find locations around town, such as with major grocery store chains, offering recycling bins specifically for plastic bags. You can also use your own reusable cloth bag and skip plastic bags altogether. When possible.

If you have a large area of brush and vegetation to clear, forestry mulching may be the best option. This method works well for relatively flat areas that don’t have many large rocks or mature trees to clear. Forestry mulching is a relatively quick process that improves soil health, reduces fire risk, and leaves behind usable mulch.

The average cost of appliance removal is around $75 per appliance, but you could pay anywhere from $25 to $150, depending on a few factors. Some things that have an impact on the cost of appliance removal include the following:

  • Size of your appliance, with larger items costing more to haul away

  • Number of doorways or stairways the removal specialists need to navigate around

  • Distance from a proper dumping site

  • Presence of water lines or gas lines that need to be disconnected during removal
