"So happy I went with USA Insulation. After learning about foam insulation, I knew it was the right option for my house. They insulated my walls and attic in a day and a half, and I could feel the difference right away."

"Ralph Bertrand from Home Genius Exteriors came out to thoroughly examine our roof. Ralph showed us many photos & a video of our roof, outside & inside. Ralph took the time to answer any questions we had. He explained the various products used & levels of warranty available. We really appreciated the time Ralph spent explaining everything to us, all without pressure to buy. The day of install arrived & the team was on time & ready to work! One thing we liked was that there was someone there from Home Genius Exteriors during the whole time of install. Richard Bowan, the Install Manager, was there to oversee everything & he did an amazing job. They placed large tarps over all our landscaping & got right to work. Rich kept us updated on progress throughout the day & answered any questions we had. In addition to the new roof, we also had new gutters with leaf guards & downspouts installed. When the work was completed, we walked around the house with Rich. Everything was completely cleaned up; there was nothing left behind or out of place. Our home looks amazing. The new roof, gutters & downspouts really look beautiful. We loved our experience with Home Genius Exteriors, especially working with both Ralph & Rich. They were so professional & knowledgeable. We would recommend them to others & if we needed additional work, we would definitely call Home Genius Exteriors."

"I found evidence of termites in a pile of wood in the garage.  I called four companies to come out for an inspection and estimate. I chose Clegg's because they didn't try to sell me too much, were not overly aggressive in their sales tactics, and addressed as much as possible concerns I had about not being able to trench within the crawlspace.

I have a sump pump in the crawl space. Because of this, NC law does not allow pest companies to trench inside the crawl space and apply pesticide, as the pesticide will just be pumped out the next time the sump pump works. Because of this, two of the companies that gave me estimates would have had me sign the "North Carolina Waiver of Minimum Requirements For The Control of Subterranean Termites in Existing Structures" before having the work done. Clegg's addressed my concerns about this by drilling on the inside walls of the crawlspace and applying pesticide that way.   Because of this, they met the minimum requirements, and I did not need to sign the waiver form.

I requested that they use Termidor instead of Premise, which they generally use.  They did this for no additional charge.

Clegg's inspector found evidence of active termites in 3 locations in the garage. He also went into the crawlspace and around the  house to see if there was any other evidence.  He did not look under the drywall in the garage to see if there were termites there (a possibility, based on the other termite activity), nor did he discuss fixing any possible damage that could have occurred, but none of the other companies that gave me estimates did either.

The inspector was willing to drop by my place of work to have me sign the final contract, which I found very convenient.

The workmen arrived on time. They trenched around the house and garage and did a full drill out -- drilling about every half foot in the garage, the front stoop, and on the inside from the crawlspace the foundation. The work was completed in about 2 hours. They also noticed that we had a lot of mosquitoes in our backyard, and sprayed some pesticide in the yard and under the back deck for them for free.

The workmen had to borrow our electrical extension cord for the work. I can't recall the reason why they did that, but they returned it neatly. They left the area they worked in fairly clean -- they swept in the garage where they did the drill outs, though they accidentally left a drill bit.

I didn't get a bill until a month after the work, which was long enough to have me worry that I had gotten lost in the billing system.  The salesman had told me they would do a re-inspection prior to billing, but they did not do that. I didn't think it was really necessary though, so did not complain about it."

"Well, the first time the replacement was ordered it was the wrong one, which of course, delayed the installation a week. When it was finally installed I had to pay an additional $850 for code upgrades. This I was not informed of by Home Shield. Then we noticed that there was water on the garage floor and found that the pipe coming in from the wall was leaking at the wall so had to call the plumbing company back out to fix it. They first tried to say it was not their fault but since there wasn't a leak before they installed they did fix it. I have used Home Shield a few times before and never had a problem. Some of the companies they use are not the best so you have to research them before you commit. I have found HS service to be good if you do your homework. At the end of the day I was without hot water for almost 3 weeks but it was do to the plumbing company they sent out."

"I heard about Brian and Sarah from a Christian friend so I asked them to come by and look at my roof.  They really went the extra mile explaining all of their services and how they would go about re-roofing my house.  They used superior products and did a lot of extras that I wasn't charged for and did exactly what they said they would do.  Their pricing was extremely fair.  They showed up when they said they would and finished the job very fast and did and excellent job of cleaning up.  Their worker were very polite and friendly.  I would highly recommend them for any of your construction needs.

Drywall Insulation questions, answered by experts

When sanding drywall mud, you’re going to create a very fine dust that may contain silica. Silica dust contains crystalline silica, which can cause long-term illnesses for people who inhale it in significant quantities. Wear a mask while sanding drywall. Then dampen a drywall sponge to wipe the dust off the drywall, helping to reduce the amount of dust that may become airborne.

Venetian plaster is a highly durable wall finish that becomes a rock-like substance once dried, making it last longer than most other wall finishes. Its lifespan can range from decades to centuries, potentially lasting a lifetime. Key factors influencing its longevity include the quality of the initial application, whether it's properly sealed against moisture, and how the wall is maintained and treated (e.g., how often it is touched or bumped). Due to its mineral content, it can also develop a patina over time.

Whether you apply the drywall mesh before or after drywall mud depends on the type of patch it is. For self-adhesive patches, you’ll put the patch down first and then coat it with mud. Mesh patches that are not self-adhesive will require you to put mud down first and then press the mesh into it, followed by additional coats of mud.

Whether you can reuse a drywall anchor depends on its type, material, and how it is removed. Plastic anchors, such as expansion or self-drilling types, are generally considered single-use because they are designed to expand and are likely to break or become deformed upon removal. Metal anchors, like toggle bolts, are more durable and can often be reused if they are not damaged during extraction. However, with toggle bolts, the toggle mechanism can fall inside the wall when the bolt is removed, making it difficult to retrieve. If an anchor is damaged or must be cut for removal, it cannot be reused regardless of its material.

Applying plaster to a wall will usually cost between $2 and $10 per square foot for both the material and labor. The cost will vary based on the quality of the plaster you’re using and whether or not prep work is required before the work begins. Wall prep can add up to about 10% to your total costs. Plastering exterior walls can be more expensive in many cases because they are taller and require scaffolding and safety equipment.
